    Cutting Diet...Where do I start?

Alright, first of all I don't plan on competing so that may change some things. Currently I am 6' 190 Lbs. Probably Around 10-11 % BF. I can see my abs somewhat, but they arent' "ripped" so to speak. I know this is a contest prep section but I figure I will basically be doing a contest diet minus the last week of getting rid of water and carb loading etc.

So here is the deal...I am pretty confused about cutting diets. I know you need high protien intake (I am guessing ATLEAST 1.5 grams per pound..). I also hear the term carb cycling alot. I know what the term means...as to say you change the amount of carbs daily up and down to help drop bodyfat while not totally depleting your body of no carbs. I am clueless about how much fat to take in. And as for cardio...I know I need a lot of it in the morning...before I eat anything...But how many days a week for how long? And how many weeks should I cut for? I heard as little as 8 and as much as 16. Take into consideration I wont be competing, so I dont need to get down to 4/5 percent, but I would definatley like a solid 6 atleast.

I am not asking anybody to totally do it all and give me a whole diet...I am willing to research stuff here, just lead me in the right direction if you could.

    THanks for all your help...

P.S. Maybe I'll even post some before pics so you guys can see where I am at right now. Thanks.

i dont know that much about a cutting diet, however it seems like you shouldent try anything drastic. Try just eating a little better and adding a little bit of cardio each week and see where it goes.

Just remember cutting is all about staying in a state of caloric deficit. So a good starting point would be to just make sure you are keeping your protein high(at the recom 1-1.5g lb of body weight) and start clearing the sugar from your meals. And sooner or later you are going to have to up your cardio or reduce your ingested calories or both. Oh yeah and I hope you are eating every 2.5 -3 hours with reduced portions??? Anyway, another tip(and Im in no way claiming to know much) switch to low GI carbs , probably with the exception to your post w/o shake combo(oats/glucose whatever your currently doing) but as u go on this will have to go also. But it all depends of what u really are aiming for by doing this. Hey you should pop Alan Aragon a quick email or PM, you will get all the answers from a true professional!!!!
Anyway I hope those teensy weensy bits help kicku in some kind of direction.
But there is obviously much more involved than just these things..Good luck.

This is some great advice. I am following Alan's pre and post workout nutrition sticky (not cutting now though) and am feeling and looking better everyday. His advice is free but he could bill me and I would pay for it. Just don't tell him I said that!

Agreed. Just stick to the basics. If you have a good idea what you want to use as a base caloric intake you can use apps to keep you on track. I use myfitnesspal on droid.

One diet that I know works is the ketogenic diet. Where you eat just protein and fats. It's a challenging diet but the results are great for cutting.
