So Ive been seeing this around the boards and what not figured I'd ask. I don't know if it's genetics or what.... But are there really people eating fries, burgers, pizzas, cakes, hot dogs & what ever else they want, just as long as they are tracking it to meet there macro & caloric intake needs?
I know it's not nutritious at all, but hell it sounds damn tempting.

it's easy to say that but you can't fit all that stuff in huge portions in your
macros. When I tell people I am cutting and just eat what I want to fit my macros they say "oh man so you can pound tons of sweets and pizza and stuff?????" The answer it no I can't. You can't fit tons of that stuff in your macros and hit all your macros. Let's say your macros are...
300 protein
100 fat
200 carbs
if that is the case you can't go to mcdonalds and eat two big macs and a large fry you woudl destroy your macros. So in some senses you are forced to eat "normal bodybuilding food". Bulking is a little different when my macros are...
300 protein
400 carbs
125 fat
it does allow me to go get chipotle or a couple double cheesburgers if I'd like. But truthfully on a hardcore cut it's not like on IIFYM you can stuff your face on papa johns pizza...your fat and carb macros would be full in like two pieces and it woudl not be very enjoyable.
the nice part on a cut is instead of the cookie cutter bodybuilding diet where you have to eat 8 meals a day and they are very specific meals and very specific times with IIFYM you know what you have to hit and you can hit it however. For instance if one day I have a crazy day at work and I can only eat 3 times I can divide my macros by three and i can eat beef, eggs, steak, chicken, turkey...whatever I want to I hit my macros. So it gives you a lot of freedom. But if you are on a tough cut and trying to get shredded it is going to be painful whether you use IIFYM or a typical "guru" cut diet.

this post should be added to some sort of IIFYM FAQ. The point you make about people saying "Oh you can eat what ever you want" but they don't realize that you can't fit 3 big macs in your macros is what everyone needs to get in their head. Now, 1 a day, yes you can easily fit. So when all these people use IIFYM as an excuse to splurge or "cheat", sure you can to some degree, but if you are truly trying to maintain correct macros, those cheat meals won't be that big, instead smaller ones everyday.
Sigh, sometimes I wish I didn't have to see a new "what is your biggest cheat meal" threads every day...

Best post I have read all day!
For anyone thinking IIFYM is a license to eat what you want they are mistaken. Your macros will become much harder to hit after a pint of ben and jerrys, or a stop at the pizza hut lunch buffet, but it can be done. IIFYM saying is useful because it means you dont have to follow some ridiculous diet with 6 or more meals a day and bland meal after bland meal. People that do this are following strict rules that are unnecessary. As long as they know that it isn't having any benefit over IIFYM, its fine. I am sure eating 6 meals a day mentally helps some people hit their macros, and stay full. But there is more than one path to accomplish this.

Highlighted the carbs for emphasis. I agree with everything you said. But I run into so many people that fail at understanding minimum macro needs and optional macros. Assuming your macros above are minimums form protein and fat (although protein is possibly high?)....people can go up/down on the carbs and do so much with their daily food intake. If a person ends the day at 275P/100F/225C they will be fine, but they just fail to understand they can have this flexibility with no negative impact. It took me months of tweaking my macros to find a spot that suited my preferences best.
All of this is for the average Joe who is not getting ready to compete etc...people just make this so much more stressful than it has to be.*Unaesthetic Crew* Disregard V-Taper, Acquire PRs Thread

Oh I totally agree. THose were my macros about 7 weeks out of a show which is when I am super anal and exact...weighing everything. WHen I bulk it is all "give or take 10 to 20 grams or so". As in I don't weigh and obsess over everything single thing and most don't need to either unless they are getting ready for a show or something.

the problem is IIFYM has warped into something else. That is why truthfully I don't use IIFYM terminology I usually just say "hit your macros" or hit your protein, carb, fat goals. It's the same thing but as soon as you say IIFYM it has a negativ conotation to it. At westside barbell here in columbus they all do IIFYMMF but they call it "IF IT FITS YOUR MOUTH MOTHERF*CKER". And the macros are minimums...NOT maximums or goals. So if you want 250 protein, 100 fat, 300 carbs those are minimums.
IIFYM is a solid way of eating that has been around for years. FOr whatever reason IIFYM takes on a negative thought process a process that says "kill your macros by eating processed food with minimal micronutrients and crush those macros!".

My favorite things to eat on my macro count is a double quarter pounder from mcdonalds or a tendergrill chicken sandwich from bk. Those are two sandwiches with lots of protein that fit my macros well. Also I rarely get them without a diet coke.
One thing to remember is that if you accidentally miscount something you can make it up the next day, but you have to do that. So if you're missing 50g protein increase your intake by 50g the next day I know guys who fast for days and then eat like they're on a bulk to stop the massive catabolism. They still get ripped

Rock on man. Avi to prove it too. Sweet signature by the way too.
^ Tottally respect this post and I understand it 100%. Most importatnt thing is people are stuffing their face but like you said having maybe 1 big Mac a small fry and a bottle water maybe more macro friendly than 2 tartar fille fish fillet w/large fry and sprite....

Maybe I'm looking too deep into this, but if my goals are 300 P, 200 C, and 100 F.. if I ate two pieces of pizza (for example) and hit my fat and carb goal... as long as I hit my protein goal and have calories left, isn't' it acceptable to eat whatever I want to fill my remaining calorie limit? I guess what I'm getting at is, if you goals are to hit those numbers, as long as you get all of them it shouldn't matter if you go over if you are staying at your calorie limit....right?
Learning something new here every single day... and I'm still not sure if I understand : /
