Are genetically modified foods unethical? (srs) (GTFHI)

Many people are telling me that they are immoral, that transferring a gene between distant species is unethical.

Can someone think of an intelligent response as to why this thought is ridiculous? Please explain why it isn't.\

    Thanks

Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee

As a general rule, people in this age don't even have a concept of morals or ethics.

When most people discuss ethics, it never progresses beyond "everything I dislike is objectively immoral, amen."

I can understand people complaining about how not labeling it on a package could be immoral since producers are lying to you about what is in their product.

However, by creating Genetically modified organisms (GMOs), you can help fight of detrimental diseases/pests to the crops we grow. One case is the insertion of the bt gene into crops which let them produce their own pesticides. This cuts down on **** we have to spray with aircraft which can help decrease the amount of contamination going into the environment.

Secondly, there is a GMO rice (forget the name) that has been created to produce precursors required for proper vitamin A creation in the body. This rice is given to third world countries which have high malnutrition. This added benefit drastically helps developing children in those countries.

As stated already, plants already do this. The GMO foods thing hasn't been nearly as successful as they said it would be, but I don't see how it's inherently immoral.

Not as successful? What do you mean? Essentially every food you eat today are GMOs

They are making the claim, so they have to make the argument. Ask them why they think it is unethical.

And if you want an actual argument its because with human population growth and food shortages already present today we need to increase crop yields and reduce food spoilage, and GM crops do that effectively.

this. ethics be damned. we need stuff like GM to maximize our food production to feed the world population. <50 years we're going to need near double the food we produce now. dont even want to get stared on what water scarcity is going to do to this planet in the next 20 years.
