I got tired of it hurting so I went to the doctor and he said yeah, there's no resistance going backwards so it's likely torn.

I know exactly when it happened too, January 2004 in a rugby game when I got hit in the side of the knee while running down the sideline.

Yup. I also caught about 250ish games of baseball in that time too. It hasn't ever stopped working, it would just be sore for a few days after. I'm hoping to have the surgery just to get it taken care of. I'm tired of it constantly nagging me anymore. It also gives out periodically which really isn't healthy. My insurance will cover 90% of it so it shouldn't be much more than what I put away in my medical flex spending account each year.

you can do plenty of things without an acl. it just prevents anterior translation of the tibia, and facilitates rotational stability. running backs have finished seasons without an acl.

still i am surprised it did not start bothering you earlier

It's bothered me pretty seriously for the last 3 or 4 years, I just finally got tired of sucking it up. I also tweaked it on my run the other day and that might have pushed it over the edge.

Funny you should mention that. I had a recurring RLQ pain for weeks that I was blowing off. Finally got a CT scan and confirmed it wasn't appendicitus. I was sweating f*cking bullets, man.
