How to get a big neck?

    Title. Can anyone help?

I know getting big traps from shrugs helps the appearance, and I've also been doing forward, rear and side tilts with my own resistance (tougher than you think) for sets of ten, but i still have a twig neck. I weigh 180-185 and am 6 foot tall. I lift regularly and have a pretty good physique but it doesn't show at all through the clothes and I feel i mostly look like a skinny kid because of my twig neck. I clean 265 but my traps are still small and neck is small. Any tips on getting a strong looking neck or just keep doing what i'm doing?

180-185, especially at 6'00", is skinny.

    Keep lifting, keep bulking.

    That's a solid clean, BTW.

Lay on a flat bench with your head hanging off the end. Have someone put a towel on your forehead and pull down while you are pulling up. Do this all four ways, front, back, and each side. They also sell a harness that goes around your head that you can add weight to that replicates the towel exercise. I think you can buy them at Dicks sporting goods or you can probably find them online.

Neck harness (every session; high reps, low weight), and whatever stuff to hit traps in general (targeted or not), that you prefer.

Seconding the props for dat clean. Nice!

well at 6'1" you will probably continue to have a long looking neck, there really is nothing you can do other than focusing on traps. I thikn the head tilts are a waste to be honest, just hit heavy deadlifts and shrugs imo

Could just be your genetics? Who knows, the easiest way I know for people to get big necks is neck bridges and weighted neck harnesses. Neither of these are novice exercises, so be careful when you do these.

Shrugs and deadlifts. If you can't lose the pencil neck over time with those two then you're not moving enough weight.

Neck exercises make more sense if you're specifically training for a contact sport.

Imo genetics play a huge part in neck size. I know people who don't even exercise and just have a bullneck.

Indeed - I have a pencil neck as well - but I'll wait and put more mass on before I worry about it to much.

Kind of like the above suggestion, you can do some directions by yourself with a towel and a weight. Wrap the towel up so it forms a pad and lay on a bench with your head hanging off. Put a weight on your forehead using the towel as a pad. Obviously you will have to stabilize the weight with your hand, but rep it up and down with you neck. By yourself its easiest to do front and sides.

For back you can always do neck bridges like the wrestling workout.

Horsesh!t. The vast majority of people don't have the genetic potential to be lean at that size, nevermind heavier. So what you're effectively saying is that he needs to get fat in order to not be skinny. Like I said, horsesh!t.

You obviously don't care about seeing your abs and that's ok. It's a mindset that you share with other dudes who workout by lifting rocks. But it's lame to call anyone skinny just because they don't share that "bear mode 24/7" mindset. Hell, you'd be just as skinny if you had to cut down to a point where you had actual definition. You'd be under 200 for sure, probably around 175.

Have you been sort of feeling like you've reached your limit lately? Don't give up, keep trying.
