i bought this crappy black valeo jump rope and now my wall has all black marks on it from the jump rope

I know this doesn't help you find a better jump rope, but...

I'm thinking that marks on the walls can be avoided by not hitting the wall with your jump rope.

Maybe go jump rope outside?

If you are limited by your ceiling height then there's not a lot you can do without affecting the ropes use. Shortening the rope to bare minimum length is something you could do if you are at an advanced level (shorter rope will mean everything has to be a lot tighter, faster). Hitting the walls... move away from the walls? Other thing is you can go outside if you have a hard surface and skip, I used to do this in summer time... really gets the sweat dripping!

I don't really want to go outside because theres just a parking lot there and it would be weird

Some ropes might be better than others at not leaving marks, but if the rope is touching the walls or ceiling at all, it's going to leave some kind of mark. Even if it doesn't discolor the walls / ceiling, it'll scuff it and look worse and worse over time.

Oh someone please help. Dude, why are you jumping rope in such a fashion that the damn rope hits the WALLS of all things. If space is concern I have a strong, yet uncomplicated suggestion for you:

Those R series ropes by jumpnrope.com are awesome, have the R1 cable one myself.

Anyway, back to the original thread, I agree with others that it is an odd problem because I can't see how effectively you can jump rope if it is hitting the wall but if it's just a problem with the black coloring of the rope coming off and not the impact of the rope damaging your wall, then you just need a rope with a white cord. The R2 is white but a bit expensive. The Championship Freestyle rope at buyjumpropes.net also has a white cord plus their cord is really thin so maybe it will also minimize whatever problem you are having regarding your wall.

Doc, the reason it damages wall is its a cheap valeo rope with black coloring. I dont hit the wall every time but if you are doing 180 jumps per minute for like 10-20 minutes it kind of adds up over a period of weeks/months.
