Form actually looked good, most people get stuck on the ground so it's good to see you got it like 1/3 of the way up there. You have the strength, did look heavy for you but form didn't break down or anything. Maybe just get a bit of extra rest the days leading up to it and make sure you eat well. I think on the right day you would've had that, the muscle is there. Still amazed you are strong enough to lift as heavy as you are without a belt! You seem to be lifting very safely though, your form doesn't fall apart as far as I can tell from the vids you post, just keep lifting smart like you are.
We will be cheering you on with the whimsy of 10,000 hams, my friend!

I actually don't see any issues, other than you were already too fatigued to complete the lift Nice straight arm to the bar, your chest is lifted, you are pushing the ground away - I think your hips and all were just done for the day after that session. Next time, you have it.

Agree with Ham & 80's form looks good and you'll get it next time with more energy to spare.

Rack pulls should help you with the sticking point being where it is. Getting it off the floor is my problem, once it moves the first few inches it is going up. I have failed at a weight without even budging it only to come back the next week and lift it easily. You may lift it next time, I think half of deadlifting is in your head. Like the Ham woman said get some rest and be sure to eat good before the next session and you will likely get it done.
You are doing great though and with consistency you will be pulling 3 plates soon.Eric

I think form was good. What grip are you using?
Also, do you have any conversation going on in you head before you pull. I always tell my self, this shiz is easy, I can do it. It doesn't always work but sometimes it really helps. You are still doing great Geek!

I manipulated the numbers somewhat. I lowered what I can do on squat, bc my form was off, I kept deadlift the same (that motherfu**ing deadlift), I lowered my bench, and I increased my OHP bc that's the only thing that has consistently done well for me, and I want to keep it about on the same trajectory it was. If I screw it up, then I'll just lower it. NBD.
I want to do smolov jr, but unless I do a big session on Wednesday and also figure out how to lift and do cardio on Saturday, I can't keep the schedule. I could manage Saturday, I think, but Wednesday is my deadlift day and I don't want anything screwing that up.
Maybe I will do straight 5x5 for bench when I run into bench trouble. Because surely there will be bench trouble. And soon. I liked the repetition at the same weight in smolov jr. It really appealed to me.
Follows is a bunch of babbling. Mainly just to try and help sort it in my head.
Long Version of what happened?
Dunno. For real. I am in a city I don't much care for. Love the mountains, hate being in a small town. Trapped and feeling skittish.
Also. That deadlift messed with my head. Powerlifting I think is sort of holding me together. Or was. I suck at lots of things, especially dieting and being pretty, but I felt good about lifting.
43rd birthday happened. Noticed new wrinkles and my neck is so damned saggy from the 60 pounds I have lost + getting OLD. I thought lots about swoosh who looks amazing. She works mf'ing hard at it. I might go the route of bodybuilding, like her, but really, the only thing that will help get the weight off is DIET DIET DIET.
Frickin vanity.
SO... anyways, I am stuck with me feeling sad instead of rebellious. I am usually rebellious and that suits me just fine. But last week, I was just sad. Now I am sort of the wandering old lady, trying to find her way back.Last edited by geek23ka; 02-07-2013 at 10:07 PM.

Wow i so know what you mean. I just turned 47. I have never been a very vain person but i have to admit i do long for the way my face looked when i was in my 20's. The losing weight thing does mess with your skin. I have stretch marks from losing the 100 pounds a few years ago. They my fade a bit but never go away.
You know me i have been searching for awhile to find what i best for my mind and body. Right now i am just trying to do something everyday so i don't feel like a slug.
Oh and Happy Belated Birthday..i hope you start to feel better soon. We are all here for you. I for one think you are doing a great job. See how much you lift always motivates me.. You take care..Daily Journal

Hi Geek! Lots to catch up on in here but sorry to hear you've been feeling rough of late. I hope that 'rebellious' puts 'sad' back in it's place soon.

sorry you are feeling down, geek. Yeah, I could see smolov jr alongside madcow being difficult scheduling-wise, I contemplated doing the same thing and ran into the same issue. How do you feel about your current plan, are you excited for it? You mentioned that the bb'ing route might be in the eminent future. Numbers look reasonable. Having backup plans for the bench is smart. Bench is so slow to move, the programming for it sometimes need to read like a choose your own adventure book, because you never know what will happen.
I TOTALLY hear you on the deadlift, missing one can make you feel defeated for months. Try to wipe it from memory the best you can and just know that you went into that lift in an already fatigued state. You have great deadlift technique, do you think throwing in a little light speed work here and there might help? I find it can be helpful to mend the bruised relationship between you and the dead after a fail. It does take a little time to build that trust back, but it will happen and you'll be good as new. Although, I think that the point where you failed that dead leaves you in a lot better place than someone who gets stapled to the floor. It is one thing to end up pretty much doing an isometric contraction on the ground, or seeing the bar move up just an inch, it is a whole other ballgame to pull the bar to where you had it and fight it like you did. Unlike the person stapled to the ground, I think the way in which you failed contributes to strength, I'm sure you got a little stronger as a result of that fight
Happy 43rd! I'm sure you are the only one to notice any new wrinkles, we are our own worst critics. My advice - get softer lighting in the house if you don't already have and try not to examine yourself in harsh lighting. I hate going in places with flourescent lighting, i want to screech and fly away like a vanquished vampire haha. Skin always looks the absolute worst this time of year, nobody has seen the sun, everything is dry and any wrinkles you might have will show up big time. I'm sure you'll see some improvements once it starts warming. Emu oil seems to help an awful lot.
Diet is really difficult, I have to hand it to you, you are doing great. I'm only trying a small deficit and can't even seem to manage that. So I wish I had some words to help there but I don't since I suck at it haha, but you are doing much better than me in that department.
Hope you are feeling a little better soon, geek, sending sunshine your wayCSCS
