    Smoking once a week.

    sorry to bring this thread back alive. But when people say smoking is unhealthy, inhibits muscle growth etc. I've only found people ask this and respond for those who smoke daily. My question was would it be harmful for someone trying to cut, and bulk afterwords to smoke just one cigarette a week. I know people say just don't but will it hinder my progress if I just smoke one a week on a Friday. I just need it to release the weekly stress. I know people will say go to the gym that helps. It does , but I still wan't one smoke. But if it does hinder my ability to get to my goals I will stop, but I just want to know if I can at least smoke 1.

    And I don't do any drinking or hard drugs. This is the only "unhealthy" thing I am doing.

    Thanks for the reply ErikTheElectric. And what other ways do you suggest. I haven't smoke in a year and when I did was able to control the amount I smoked. I'm away from home, and haven't found my "home" outside of home yet. I occasionally suffer "existential" depression you could say. I started cutting a month ago and I feel a lot better physically. When I free run I feel a lot stronger and faster ever since I started hitting the gymn. And I want to continue, but I still feel a lot of stress and suffer intermititant period of depression, which is say and I've been able to minimize the amount I smoke to just one a week before moving.

    What are some alternatives, because drinking doesn't help, and the friends I have can actually induce more stress not because they are horrible but its just me.... But working out has helped I just want to make sure smoking does not take what has done well this month.

    just quit man honestly. right now you think 1 a week is cool, then it adds up soon you will be using it as a crutch for everything and a pack a day then you are stuck in it. quit now, look up the risk and black lungs online and ****, even though in moderation they arent that bad but you do not want to get addicted. im suprised people still choke those sticks down after all the research and damage has been seen to what it can do.

    i used to smoke for 7 years, recently just hit 2 years since i quit. with that being said i just cannot understand one cigarette a week. i mean if you were smoking one blunt a week then yeah but one cigarette?

    thats like saying drinking alcohol once a week does nothing to your body. It slowly affects your body over time. You wouldn't notice the effects until you got older.

    I quit 3 weeks ago after three years of 1-1&1/2 a pack a day and I'll be honest i feel alot better. that being said, I still made alot of progress while smoking, but would HIGHLY RECOMEND that you just refrain from smoking.

    think of it this way, If you smoke, you're more likely to get sick. If you're sick, you can't lift very well. If you can't lift very well, you will have hindered your progress.

    I smoke massive amounts of cigars every week. Plenty of things we do to ourselves screw with our workouts beyond puffing a little quality smoke. And smoking doesn't make you sick any more than going outside without a hat or getting your feet wet.

    If I could smoke when I lift that would be even better.

    Wrong. Smoking causes damage by a cumulative effect based on quantity. In medicine this is quantified based on pack years. So a person who smoked a half pack a day for 2 years is said to have smoked for 1 pack year. Things like COPD and cancer typically are the consequence of >20 pack years. More commonly seen in the 30-50 pack year range. Smoking one cigarette per week, for even something like 30 years would be clinically equivalent to smoking a pack a day for a little over 2 months. In other words, zero negative long-term health consequences whatsoever.

    Don't quit your day job.

    i smoked from age 18 to 20.

    I woke up one morning and said, "Hmm.. this is bad.."

    Never touched one again. First 3 days sucked... after that, I was fine.

    Your sense of smell gets better, you taste more, and you don't smell like crap all the time.

    It's funny because I don't remember thinking I smelled bad... but now, I can smell cigarettes from like 100 feet away...

    I literally never get cravings now.

    I'm not sure how this relates to you lol but I quit cold turkey the day I went to basic training after 9 years of a pack a day. Within 10 mins of graduation 3 months later I had a cigarette in my hand.
