Blowin Up With AI Sports Glycobol!

Hey all. Just like the title says...Its time to get swole!

I'll admit, that when it comes to supplements, I have been a skeptic. I have always stuck to the ole protein/creatine/caffeine combo........until now.

Curiosity got the better of me during Black Friday craziness and I ordered a "stack" from Anabolic Innovations (AI Sports). The stack consisted of Testapro, Stoked, and HGHpro. I quickly realized that with young children waking up at hours of the night that the HGHpro wasnt for me. I traded it for a bottle of Glycobol and began reading up on the product.

Glycobol is a Lipoic Acid-based product. Huh???? Okay, in simple terms, it works to lower and control blood sugar levels by shoving that good stuff into muscles. Sounded good to me. I just started a calorie deficit and wanted to look for something that could help me look the part once I arrived at my goal.

Before I began with any of the new products, I requested samples of other AI Sports products from my friendly neighborhood AI Sports rep. He not only got the samples of other products ready for me; he offered me a chance to log Glycobol for free. I accepted.

Here is what a sample pack from AI Sports looks like (minus the Glycobol).

Thanks to BulkyPinoy60 for setting me up in a friendly and professional way. My first impression of AI Sports is very positive.

So, whats the deal with me?????

Im married with children....Im old (at least by this board's average age)......Im a High School Teacher that builds tomorrow's leaders. Oh yeah, Im a competitive SOB that deals with my main adversary every other day in the training room, myself.

For a program I use Growth Stimulus Training. Simply put, its a four day split that centers on squat, press, pull, lift. Each category is given its own "Day". I then program in accesory lifts to support the main core lift for each Day. I have branched out into other specialty programs (see signature line) and have had success.

My best lifts are modest by this boards standards: 505d, 290b, and as for squats I constantly have battled knee tendonitis which has turned my squat days into a combo of Fronts and RDLs.

Currently, I am dropping weight reeeeeaaaaaal slow from a bodyweight of 195 at 15%bf. Diet is rock solid at 2300 kcals/day. Macros vary bit from training days to rest days, but I am usually at 225p, 225c, 60f. My goal is to get to 10% by Spring. I'm in zero hurry as I want to preserve muscle.

    Lets call this starting.....

My plan with the AI products is to use only Glycobol at first. After a week or two, I will introduce Testapro into the mix. I will use the samples at various times and report on those also (used Maniac today!)

As for the Glycobol......my dosing strategy has evloved as I have researched. I eat four meals per day with the final meal being really light on carbs. For now I will dose the Glycobol as follows:

Training Days - 2 caps at breakfast, 1 before training, 1 after training
Rest Days - 2 caps at breakfast, 1 at lunch, 1 at dinner

I have based this protocol on Layne Norton's Lipoic Acid Project and by seeing how AI sponsore athlete John Smeton has dosed. I am willing to change if someone convinces me. My approach puts Glycobol around my training window and keeps me around 500mg every six hours or so.

All of that said.....I am willing to learn. I hope that this journal pulls in some experienced athletes that know their stuff when it comes to ALA products. Thanks ahead of time to anyone that contributes.

    Glycobol Day 1

    Rest Day

Dosed it at meals in a 1-1-2 scheme. I had zero ill effects and felt confident that I would be fine taking it.

    Day 2 - Press Day

    Dosed it in a 1-1-1-1 scheme. 1 at 6am, 1 pre, 1 post, and 1 with my 9pm snack/meal. i also used a sample of Maniac pre-workout.

    Press Day looked like this:

    Weak Point Training - Biceps
    BB Curls
    80x10
    80x10
    80x10

    Incline DB Curls
    30x10 (+5#)
    30x10
    30x10

    Hammer Curls
    35x6
    35x6
    35x6

    Press and Press Assistance
    Bench Press
    45x10
    135x5
    185x3
    205x1
230x8 amrap. Was hoping to make a run at 10 reps....not today.
    230x5
230x5 No problems on these sets

    Incline BB Press
    165x10
    165x10
    165x8 (+1 rep)

    Flat Flys
    45x10
    45x10
50x8 In this rep range (8-10), I had worked with 40# for a month. Stepped it up today.

BTN Decline Crunches/ Rope Pressdowns /Oblique DB Crunches
BW+10x10 / 45x10 / 90x10 Almost zero rest here. This was a brutal ender today.
    BW+10x10 / 45x10 / 90x10
    ------------ / 45x10 / --------

I will admit, although I dont know if it was the Glycobol or the Maniac....I was pumped to high hell after the bicep work. My biceps are NEVER vascular, but were today. It was weak, but I could actually see veins in both biceps. So, it was a thumbs up for day 1 in the AI experiment.

    As for Today's Rest Day......

I dosed Glycobol in a 2-1-1 scheme and just took my last cap with angel hair spaghetti and meatballs made from family raised angus beef. Thats right boys......I married an Angus farmers daughter.

Tomorrow is a combined Lift & Pull Day. So I am looking at Deads, Rows, Shrugs, etc.

Its a training day today and it dawned on me that a 1-1-1-1 dosing scheme may be my best path. 1 at 6am, 1 at 11am, 1 pre(3pm), 1 post (5pm).

Am I overthinking this? My rationale is that I keep a steady stream of ALA going throughout the day.

Also.....Im cutting calories and seeing very little scale movement. Mid-November I was 198. Upon dropping below maintenance for a few days, I immediately fell to 194. My weight sat right there while I ate at 2500 kcals. (Previously I was above 3200 per day)

In the last two weeks I have been consistently at 2300-2400 per day. My weight has just bounced around between 191.6 and 194 during this time. The bouncing around has occurred with no significant difference in diet on any specific days.

So, since mid-November, I have lost about 4-5 pounds while getting down to 2300. Seems like something is off to me.

i am open to advice on dropping fat while maintaining the muscle.

Dosed the Glycobol in a 1-1-1-1 scheme with the last two caps being taken around my training time. I did deadlifts today with back assistance work so hard to tell if I looked any different back there.

One thing that I have noticed after three days is that I can see the veins running thru my chest and shoulders. I am not usually a vascular guy at all. Just seeing new veins become visible is a big change.

Now, this could be the Glycobol or a byproduct of being down a few pounds.........or both. Lets see if the vascularity continues to eveolve in the next 1-2 weeks.

Notes - Another day at the office for Lift & Pull Day. I am lighter than my previous 405x5 effort. I either need to man up and go for 6 rps next time of move to 415 and work for 5. AM bodyweight was 193.0. Did a ton of Lyle McDonald reading today. Thats a goal now......to master my own body's dietary system.

Yeah, the 25's help produce a greater ROM at the same weight........but I'm sure that is why you do it that way. Not much sense in rowing 45's six inches.

    Thanks for the comments John.

    BTW...just downed a few pre-breakfast Glycobols

Thanks CG. As you know, I am a food before supplements guys. I am very intrigued by alpha lipoic acid and especially by Glycobol.

That said, the more that I read, the more that I realize I need to learn about this product.

First, I know that Glycobol will drop my blood sugar. That fact is proven here:
    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...#post326440333

Obviously, persons experiencing a blood sugar drop respond by eating. So....as a weightlifter/bodybuilder, it will make a big difference what I eat when using this product.

So, I am back to my dosing scheme again.

On training days I eat a normal balanced lunch at around noon and then train at about 3:30. I have found that I am a little below par if I eat a carb-load an hour before this training time. So, I am betting that the best thing for me is to take Glycobol right when I finish my training, wait 20 minutes (blood sugar drops), and then have a combo of Whey, carbs, creatine, etc. Anything that will be absorbed quickly and be bound for muscle cells.

Every day, my biggest carb meal is breakfast. Had 80g carbs this morning. So, I will dose Glycobol 20 minutes before my breakfast as well. In general, I will take it whan I eat a meal high in carbs and low in fats.

Looks like I am back to the 2 caps in the am and 2 caps in the pm as prescribed.

If I am misthinking something here........one of you experts please let me know.

It should be clear to anyone following that the dosing of this product is not an easy adjustment for a regular trainee. I am not a professional gearing up for competition. That is why it is taking me some time and researching to learn enough about this product to really dial in when I want to take it.

I've read enough about the dosing from people running it and asking questions in the supp section to tell you that what you are doing falls in line with what many of them conclude.

I did have a training session today....but as for the Glycobol!

I am a career long teacher and I have just researched the crap out of ALA, insulin response, etc. I still have a ways to go. But......I think that I had a REALLY good dosing scheme for today. Caps were taken 20 minutes before food was consumed:

    7:40am 2 Caps

8am Meal 1 - 50g Protein, 75g Carbs, 12g Fat - Had to eat some Fat here to get near my daily Fat goals. But this is limited compared to usual Meal 1

12pm Meal 2 - tilted towards Proteins and Fats

    5pm to 6:30pm Training Session

    6:25 2 Caps....and then I waited 20 minutes with a timer set.
At the 15 minute mark I began having "symptoms"...slightly shaky, ringing ears, just felt zoned.
These "symptoms" became a bit more marked between the 15 minute and 20 minute mark. I then got to the carbs.

6:45pm Meal 3 - 37p, 75c, 1f - Carbs were Greek Yogurt with Fruit, Banana, and 4 large Marshmallows (lol)
I continued to have symptoms for the next 20-25 minutes and then returned to normal

    8:30pm - 35p, 35c - Sweet Potato for the carbs here

So.......I beleive that my blood sugar dropped with the post-training Glycobol. I think that I did this right here on day four. This could be my Training Day pattern. This pattern also resulted in me eating more carbs and fewer fats while eating the same calorie load for the day. Not a bad deal for a training day at all.

I am open to comments for those in the know.

    Slightly Widened for these sets
    205x6
225x3 I've done 4 before at this weight and could have had it today....with a monumental battle

Notes - Strict rest periods with about two minutes between exercises. I think that I am making progress on the biceps. Put biceps and abs first because its a WPT Day. CGBP is just extra chest work. It may sound funny, but.....my legs were gone by the time I got to CGBP. It didnt matter as far as the result, but may have placed more direct work on the chest and tris without my normal leg drive.

Thanks Nate. Its a work in progress for me.

I want to get down to 10%bf in the next few months and I think that this product can help me.

I am being detailed just due to the fact that this is something new to me. I'm not sure how my body will respond. Then when I get into the different dosing schemes that are possible..............my head spins.

I'll admit, I am still learning about the product. A hard question I get is "what does it do for you?" Hard to explain blood sugar, etc. on the fly to someone.

    Non-Training Day today

    7am 2 Caps

    7:30am Meal 1 - 50p, 75c, 10f

    12:30pm Meal 2 - 60p, 24c, 45f

    6pm 2 Caps

    6:30pm Meal 3 - 42p, 77c, 10f

    9:30pm Meal 4 - 46p, 10c, 4f

Just dosing the Glycobol with my biggest Carb meals each day. Hopefully, this will control a big upward swing in blood sugar. I can say that I am not having that BLAH feeling a few hours after a big meal. Feeling good!

I tilt towards a higher fat content on non-training days.

    FYI - Totals today were about 2250 kcals @ 207p, 186c, 70f

Today's Rest Day was almost identical to the post one up from this one.

Tomorrow is Squat Day..........have to decide whether to dose both Glycobols post-workout or to dose one of them before the training session to gauge the ultra-pump that this stuff elicits!

Care to explain why? Keep in mind that I usually do not eat anything about 3-4 hours before training.

Would you suggest that I dose with a piece of fruit or somethinbg equivalent?

Insulin sensitivity is naturally highest after a workout. So you don't need to use Glycobol then, essentially you are already in a state in which Glycobol is no longer necessary (postWO) only. I like it preWO because it really gives good pumps and fullness while working out.

If you don't eat before training I wouldn't take a Glycobol pill pre.
