Tendonitis on right elbow and right shoulder pain but cant stop training !

    Okay guys

    need some advice if possible

basically ive been going gym consistently for nearly a year now and recently developed tendonitis on the right elbow and even more recently shoulder pain on the right arm too !!

now this obviously affected the strength on most of my lifts as i just cant push hard enough with the pain but i also dont want to stop the whole gym routine as i have a good thing going on.

Ive just started my cut and i want to see it through.

Can anyone give me any tips on how to get through this?? Im trying to avoid certain exercises as they hurt more than others

    Advice welcome

You can benefit from the rest bro. Listen to your body. Just go do cardio or legs for a week. I lifted thru tendonitis and eventually had to take 2 months off lifting because it got so bad.

    Thanks bro

Do you think i should stop upper body exercises until i fully recover or still continue with exercises which dont cause pain?

I go gym with my highly competitive cousin and to be fair i dont want him overtaking me ! lol

Sadly yeah I think you should rest it for a bit. Just rest for a week and see what happens. I lost a lot of gains taking 2months off but they came back within a month or two due to muscle memory. You might even gain muscle too, I found after long rest periods I was lifting more on my return

Let me offer a counter point of view.

train as much as you want, whatever you want, as long as there's no pain.

    That's it.

As for your elbow and shoulder, that's not going to get better just by resting. keep mobile and pain free. Find out what movements work without pain; what loads you can use without pain.

Sometimes progressive injuries like these (let's set aside whether it's "tendonitis" or not) are signs that our body is trying to tell us it's not happy about something we're doing - and it will keep getting worse, and louder until we pay attention.

Pain is a signal to change.

The question is, what is your body saying it wants you to change?

The other part is that until you make that change, your nervous system is going to have a hard time trusting you and may just keep firing up pain signals.

You have several options IF you really want to get the pain side addressed.
    1) see a movement specialist who can do an assessment and likely get you out of pain right away.

    2) get a dynamic joint mobility practice into your life - start getting some quality movement happening. By moving only in one direction (infront of the body up and down) - we are asking for problems - especially if we tend to move mostly in say a push rather.

    3) be open to the possibility that your shoulder issue has nothing to do with your shoulder. It may be related to a stuck thoracic spine or a hip thing or your balance. Hence the assessment and movement work in general can help.

wow excellent post and i definitely can understand that.

Basically i realised that my elbow pain dissapeared gradually when i stopped doing skull crushers using the EZ bar but since restarting this exercise the pain has decided to reappear. Think i will avoid this in the future !

repped even tho it wont make a difference

    something else to think about:
    - why can you NOT do skill crushers? if these are bothering you, avoiding them is not solving the issue, but may just be avoiding the problem.
