Didn't wanna put this in regular Misc, so I put it here. Anyway, one of my bigger hobbies outside of lifting is what my friends and I call hounding. Basically I go to sporting events with pictures and souvenirs and stuff and try to get as many autographs as I can. I do every sport, but love doing baseball the most. Being in Buffalo, I have access to a few different AAA-baseball teams and NHL teams. NFL players rarely sign. I travel around a little bit (have gone as far south as Washington DC, as far west as Chicago, as far north as Toronto) and collect a wide range of stuff. Just wanted to know if there was anyone else who was into this sort of thing. I figured I could share my stories and show off my collection a little bit if anyone was interested. Also I can give tips on players and how to get autographs and stuff. I have met a lot of people and gotten close to a lot of high profile athletes in-person.
Just got back from doing the Yankees AAA-team from Scranton-Wilkes Barre and decided to make this thread.

i got Joe Thomas (R&B Singer) auto graph's on his CD & Shikaria's from way back when i was young LOL.
Errr'body wanna be a Bodybuilder, but dont no body, wanna lift, no, heavy, ass weight!!!
Sweet. Musicians and entertainers are much more likely to sign and be cool than athletes, in my experience.
Ive only ever been to a few sports games in the US when i was about 10! haha. Id like to get my hands on a autograph from Eli Manning New York Giants tho!. Brought the official Jersey...& i was broke after that LOL.

Eli's autograph sells pretty well if it is certified as real. It'll cost ya to get your hands on one if you can't manage to meet him and snag an auto for free.

When I was younger I was really into it, talking late 90's, maybe 2001 at latest. I'd send dozens of letters in the mail with cards to try to get signed, and once or twice a year I'd go to the hotel the visiting NFL team was staying and try to get their autographs (was usually 10-20 people there depending on team). Still have some cards signed and a few helmets and things at my parent's house.
sup brah! I collect as well down in Texas....got too many Rangers autographs so I've been trying to get autographs for the away teams. Got Felix Hernandez two days ago.
Haha, I live in Buffalo, NY... not a lot of land east of where I currently sit.

It was probably a lot easier then, without eBay and all. A lot of athletes won't sign **** anymore because probably 1/2 of the people that go are dealers. It's almost impossible to get NFL guys now. I used to do cards through the mail, but I got out of it. Now I just print 8x10s and carry baseballs/pucks/footballs/sport appropriate equipment.

Lucky f*ck, the Rangers are my favorite team. I got a TON of guys last year when I went to Toronto to see them play the Jays. How was Felix? I am going to Seattle @ Toronto on 4/29 and he is one of my top targets. How about Ichiro?

No but a guy I went to HS with sells them for a living.
More about celebs than athletes though.
No idea how he got into that either.
But on his FB page he's also got pics with lots of different celebs : Johnny Depp, Kim Kardashian (hnnng), Robert Deniro etc..

They are actually surprisingly friendly and easy to get pictures with, for the most part. The hardest part is identifying them, and that is easy as hell. I've met a few celebs and it's a lot easier to get them to sign a photo than a big name athlete.

It's more than that, sometimes. For example, if you have trading cards of an athlete and a Sharpie and think that is all you need, you're dead wrong and your autograph is going to turn out completely shitty.
Bro above, are you new to this? Have you done it before? How much experience do you have, that was essentially the question I was posing in my last post...

Bro, don't even bother with Ichiro. Been trying to get him for years and the phucker won't even look our way. Felix will sign though just not everyday and obviously not for a whole lot of people. Here's a tip for you, during BP he likes to mess around in left field (he's been going to left field the past 3-4 years) and he'll sign when the basket that holds the practice balls is empty and the players are filling them up. I hope you know what I'm saying lol, trying to make it simple. All in all, hang around the left field side, that's where I got him, somedays he signs over the dugout, but of course you know it's alllllllllllllll up to chance.
EDIT: Rangers are good on the road I've heard. Michael Young never phucking signs in Arlington but my brother and I went down to Houston for a game between the two teams and the phaggot signed all 3 days.
Last year in Toronto, Cruz did everything I put in front of him, Young signed a card for me and was completely dressed up like you wouldn't believe, Kinsler signed a card for me, CJ Wilson signed everything I put in front of him, Hamilton was a humongous dick, Murphy did a card for me, Feliz ignored me, Ogando ignored me, Moreland signed my card, Napoli ignored me... and Elvis Andrus signed my baseball after I asked him to sign in his native tongue =D!

CJ Wilson was the nicest player I've ever encountered. Would always stop at the tunnel and sign anything and everything. Phucking Young phaggot never signs at home. Kinsler as well. I guess your story sorta confirms Cruz never signs on the road, but he signs all the time down here. Ogando and Feliz got big heads, they never signed, good thing I got them when they were in the minor leagues. Napoli sometimes sign, msot of the time not. He's from the Angels though and Scoscia (sp?) doesn't like his players to sign and even if the Angels players do sign, they only do side panel.
No, Cruz did everything. He was on the DL at the time so I guess he was feeling generous. Kinsler really pissed me off... he was such a dick and he is my favorite player. I had his jersey/shirt on and everything... sigh. I can live with a side panel since I don't resell. Had an 8x10 for Ogando but he just smiled at me and kept walkin'. Guess he wasn't mirin' aesthetics.

Edit: Just got Felix again (didn't press down as hard on the bic pen...dude was gonna with a Staedtler but I asked him to switch). Also got Michael Young on the dugout which will probably be the last time until like fall lol.

It's not that hard to get autographs..... they announce signings at team shops all the cot damn time up here in seattle, plus you could always go to their charity promotions if you really wanted to get one
Also you'd be surprised how many college athletes have facebooks, I've talked to numerous UW football players and a couple basketball players on FB chat, talking to an athlete like an actual person instead of sucking up and asking for an autograph is more enjoyable IMO

I do the Mets AAA team and the visiting team. Sometimes I travel, like to Indians games and Jays games. I will trade, sure... depending on what you want from me. I trade all the time.

It's a lot harder to acquire an autograph from a professional athlete not through an organized event.

I collect autographed cards. I have a fairly extensive collection of Cincinnati reds & have a fair amount of Bengals. I should post a pic. On my phone right now.

Not really a fan of people who are pro autograph collectors. Went to a Jamal Mayers signing in 2008 and some asshat right in front of me had like 30 things for him to sign. No wonder I was in line for almost 2 hours and Mayers looked like he was about to keel over from exhaustion.

Agree, those are the eBay sellers are no one respects them when they see one, especially me. However, the players do remember and will call out those who keep on coming back. Example: Josh Hamilton signs every other day behind the dugout during batting practice and there's always "that one guy" who tries to double-dip but one day Josh Hamilton looks at him and says, "Hey man, I already signed for you" and glares at him....Never saw that guy again.
There's a respect factor for both parties when it comes to requesting for autographs though. I'll yell out the player's name for an autograph and if he says no or shows some sort of body language that he does not want to sign then I'll just find another player to go after. No use in pissing the player off.
Edit: Josh Hamilton is one of the nicest players from the Rangers when it comes to signing and in general. He doesn't sign everyday but always keeps his word if he says he'll sign the next day.

I'm sort of getting into this. I have a ton of the Yankees signature series cards (2003), and I try to buy Giants' autographed rookies cards for cheap off ebay.
