WASHINGTON – The Russian military anticipates that an attack will occur on Iran by the summer and has developed an action plan to move Russian troops through neighboring Georgia to stage in Armenia, which borders on the Islamic republic, according to informed Russian sources.

Russian Security Council head Viktor Ozerov said that Russian General Military Headquarters has prepared an action plan in the event of an attack on Iran.

Dmitry Rogozin, who recently was the Russian ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, warned against an attack on Iran.

"Iran is our neighbor," Rogozin said. "If Iran is involved in any military action, it's a direct threat to our security." Rogozin now is the deputy Russian prime minister and is regarded as anti-Western. He oversees Russia's defense sector.

Israel would be trounced by Russia...We've known for a while that Russia has had nuclear scientists on the ground in Iran for a while, but this would be a srs escalation by Russia if it turns out to be valid. Good on them! It would make sense that Russia would want to protect Russian scientists in Iran. Attacking Iranian nuclear facilities would be directly attacking Russia if Russian scientists were in fact in said nuclear facilities. So the "ground work" is there for Russia to interfere if it so chooses.

Don't be so quick to discount the article on the grounds that it doesn't fit you skewed perceptions of whats legit. Russian ground troops would most certainly be backed by Russian anti-aircraft batteries, along with the Russian Air Force. I've got news for you Jnoah, Israels military is not built to take on a military like Russias. If Russia does in fact get involved, Israel will no doubt cower behind the US like they always do, thus allowing cooler heads to prevail.

It's about time that someone showed some backbone when it comes to the constant warmongering by the US and Israel.

Our country is pretty much bankrupt, our debt is sky high, our politicians are incredibly corrupt, our political system is a complete joke, and we are still involved militarily all over the world. I couldn't agree with you more. It's doubtful that the US would stand up to Russia. Israel would get there brains blown back to the stone age by Russia, with 100% certainty.

I have a feeling the world political stage is going to start changing dramatically over the next decade. No more can the US **** all over the world without consequences. The US sphere of influence will gradually shrink.

This. Just 4 years ago there was a build up of forces and tensions between the two. Educated guess, but i don't think they're the type of friends to just let this happen

they were gonna have volunteers from my unit go to georgia to help train their army. Idk why or what for or anything about it, which is why i didnt volunteer, and i dont see the need. Not saying it has anything to do with this situation. I dont think it fell thru anyways. Most of the R/P would find it a waste of money right =)

Its called posturing...Will Israel risk a larger conflict that they are not prepared for by attacking Russian troops? You also ignorantly assume that Russia would send its troops into a conflict zone without proper defensive systems. Russia would not leave its troops defenseless against an air campaign. When Russia flattened Georgias pathetic military back in 2008, they moved their nuclear capable SS-21 missile launchers into South Ossetia. This is posturing, showing that they mean business and that no one is allowed to interfere. Its likely that Iran does in fact have the vaunted S-300 air defense system. This is absolutely a game changer in regards to a successful Israeli air campaign. Even the article makes quick mention of this.
