We used to have a member who lived in Toronto. I think he's in Australia now.
Anyone know what happened to Trempid?
Carlos, you might want to try the main forums anyway. Sure they can be nasty toward us, but there are some who don't give two fiddlers farts about it. You'll probably have more luck there. About to head out to gym; bicep/tricep day. I kinda dread Mondays cuz it tends to be crowded due to folks feeling guilty about their partying over the weekend.
Do you guys ever feel intimidated at the gym, especially the weight room where there might be typically bigger and more experienced dudes. When do those feelings of inadequacy go away? I know it's all in my head: the thoughts that ppl are looking at me, judging or laughing.
When the weight room isn't as packed I'm alright and feel pretty good. It's when it's crowded that my anxiety kicks in.
Btw, sorry for venting.

bhujerban - thanks for the advice. I'm following that, and it does feel better. I'll continue to take it easy with the knee for a few more days.
carlos - years ago I tended to feel intimidated, especially after joining a new gym. I don't feel that way now; I just remind myself that I'm there for me and my goals, not for them. Also, I've come to realize that the big guys are usually cool and they know, when looking at the less advanced guys, that they've all been there.

09-23-2013, 08:29 PM #2141You can, and need to find a ground that you know you are suppose to stand on.. hence, stand your ground, this is the place where you know everything is as it should be for you. If you stand in a place where you know in your heart things are wrong, most things around you will never be right.
Rule number one, never work at being what another man defines as being "honorable", Honorable is is being true to what you know and and doing what you know is right for you..

Yeah I know that. I'm not hitting the gym to cruise. It's a mental hurdle though, exposing myself to an environment where I feel physically smaller and weaker. Also seems like everyone's got a buddy with them.
Anyways I had a killer workout. Brutalized my arms yesterday. Woke up all sore and loving it.

Don't ya love when that happens...! I finally got to go back after a 2-month absence for an injury I received while cutting grass. Did back and biceps, and today the arms are kinda sore. The right one usually IS because of the injury, but it's a different kind of sore, the kind that's familiar and makes me feel like I actually did something. My shoulders were surprisingly good today.

Chest and shoulders for me on Wednesday, probably gonna listen to the hard rock channel on Pandora.
1. I thought all along you'd be the death of me, but I met one tonight who wants what's left of me!
2. You are so full of s***, maintenance is still unclogging the toilet.
3. Save a horse, ride a cowboy!
4. This mission does not exist, nor will it ever exist.
5. I'd like to check you for ticks.

You may benefit from including a few in-session goals like improving your technique for major lifts, and mental exercises like visualization between sets. Keeping busy will shift your focus from your surroundings and what you think is going on in other people's heads - which is a bad trap anyway - to immediate tasks in your control or aid you in achieving a goal.
Brah, you need to work on your selfies!
You might want to review this awesome instructional, 'cause you miss out doing Step 6 in nearly every pic.
You made good progress from April to September. A few have dates attached, but are the others uploaded to the album chronologically? All of the "date taken" fields are for today.
It appears your delts overwhelm your shoulders in some shots, (could be due to how you're lifting the camera to take the picture,) and they make your trap look small. If that is an issue you can even things out by bringing up the traps and middle back.Hums the theme to Superman during planks and LYTPs. Now that you've read this, you will too.
All right boys, now watch how this is done. The key is to put it all in your groin and your back.
Take your legs totally out of the equation. Lift with your lower back in a jerking, twisting motion.

I didn't realize my pics were too selfie. But, yeah some of them are from Instagram. I mainly use IG for fitness progress pics, and to get that legitimization that I sorely miss in real life. How depressing.
The pics aren't in chronological order as I don't have dates of most of them as they were taken before I ugraded to IOS7.

Helloooo everyone! I'm so excited to see that there's a forum here for my people! A little about myself:
I'm a chub who's working on becoming a stud and I'm well on my way! 35 lbs down 70ish to go. The weight is just starting to melt off now and my confidence has grown enough to where I feel like I can jump back into the dating game after 4 years. I did meet a guy that I really liked but, as always, he turned out to be a complete tool so my confidence is a little shaken right now. I'd forgotten how vicious and shallow some gay men can be.
Anyway, I'll be floating around this thread here as it's good to see like minded, health conscious gays like myself. It's actually pretty motivating. If you happen to be in the San Antonio area, I'm looking for a strictly platonic gym partner to help me with a few aerobic and weight lifting exercises. I've been reading that bench presses are really good for the chest and I have a decent set of bitch tits that would make a drag queen envious to lose but I am afraid of doing them because I'm paranoid I will drop the barbell on myself. Much like how I will never do the treadmill because I think I might fall and make an ass of myself so I just stick to the elliptical.
Send me PM or reply here and I'll keep an eye out. I have a Ruby Level Gold's Gym Membership and I normally go to the one on 1604 and Bandera.
Cheers!

OMG yes. As a still fatty, I'm scared to set foot in the free weight area and just keep to myself on the machines. I always catch people looking at me. It's not even in my head, they're actually looking at me. Having self-esteem issues, I can only imagine what they're thinking.
At least I'm there and I'm making progress. I revel in the thought that some day I will be like them but I am a much nicer person so I might just go over to someone who appears to not know what they're doing and offer help.

I recommend reading Mike Rippetoes Starting Strength routine. It's a very basic workout with 3-4 basic exercises that are the fundamental buildings blocks of increasing your core strength. It's basically presses, squats and dead lifts. With 5 sets of 5 reps. And basically you start off with just a bar, no weights. As your confidence increases you can add weights as you go.
I too was afraid of bench presses and squats, but trust me, start with just the bar. And focus on your form, and the developing the psychic link between your mind and that particular muscle. And don't feel silly about just working with the bar, EVERYONE does a warm up set or two of just the bar.

I wish I had watched that video before snapping a selfie this afternoon And I took it during the workout, not after.

Well, my knee is definitely on the mend, and I expect to be able to leg work and swimming again very soon. I also hope to improve my sleep habits. I know sleep is important in proper muscle building and recuperation, but I don't get enough sleep nowadays. I've tried going to bed earlier but I just stay awake for a long while.

Thanks for the tip Carlos. You read my mind. I did think I would look pretty silly lifting without weights, lol. I've mostly been doing aerobics like with the ball thing and medicine ball. My gym also has this TRX thing which is a bunch of pullies that looks interesting but I don't think I have enough upper body strength to use that yet. But yeah, Ill try the weights first though.

Good to see new posters. Still looking for someone local to partner with. Someone should make a gym buddy app like Grindr but not for sex, but to meet folks looking for workout friends.
Had a bit of a mental set back yesterday when a casual friend from work told me she couldn't tell that I had been training and she didn't see much change in my body. It bummed me out a bit, then my self doubt kicked into overdrive. :/ I don't think she was being a hater cuz she's a very nice person, which made it even worse.

OMG! Sooo Funny! I have to remember these tips
Welcome! I think it's the lack of calorie intake that makes them bitchy and mean. Continued success on your journey
I think you are well on your way, welcome and much success on your amping your body up.
Ha, ha on the workout buddy app, men will use it to hook up with fitter guys maybe with some workout tips included.
The people you see on a daily basis will not see the progress you are making. Never get discouraged, you are moving forward plus you are striving for a healthier more active lifestyle.
