I also used to have a gym partner. Big muscular fellow with chicken legs and a face that could break a mirror in another room. He knew his stuff, but his motivation was more of bullying and minimizing your success because it wasn't as big as his. (Of course he had a small dick too. Lord giveth and Lord taketh away. ) We were at *very* different levels of skill and eventually that drove us apart. He threw me over for his copper buddy (I call him 'copper' because I couldn't get any change out of him ), and actually taught me very little. I haven't had a partner since, and I like it that way.
I'd consider having a partner again, but he has to be closer to my level, and not be such Jersey trash like his predecessor. The thing I like least about the treadmill is that I can't run from my farts. -- Source unknown

If you stand in a place where you know in your heart things are wrong, most things around you will never be right.

Bodybuilding.com has almost an encyclopedia of knowledge in its database, so it's no wonder you might feel overwhelmed. If you start with the "Find a Plan" option on the menu at the top of the page, it should have a few options for your goals. It'll ask you questions about your age and edxperience, and then recommend several options. The best thing to do is find one that you like and give it a go for a while. Measure your beginning stats, give it a couple months to work, and see what progress you've made (or not, as the case may be). If you find your results are not satisfactory, make *small* changes to the program.
Patience and rest are very important. Body recomp can take a long time. You just can't add 20 lbs of muscle in a year. Good luck bro. Let us know how it goes! The thing I like least about the treadmill is that I can't run from my farts. -- Source unknown

A trainer used to post in this thread, and he did offer his assistance to members. I'm sure it still stands, so if you contact him (TrainerJosh) he could help and maybe recommend a solid training program.
In the meantime, my advice is to use the information in the Calculating Calorie & Macronutrient Needs sticky from the Nutrition section to create guidelines for your meal plans. A lot of people have followed it and achieved their goals. You'll have to make a food journal to know how much you're putting into your body; it's your choice whether to do this online or with a local spreadsheet or pen & paper. Writing down what you consume is an exercise in awareness that will also allow you to make better choices as you go along.
As for a routine, the "Find a Plan" option was already brought up. I disagree with the suggestion, but only because the programs it pulls up focus on body-parts and splits. I'm of the mind beginners should focus on the basics and benefit more from full-body workouts where the exercises are primarily compound movements. If you want to stay with information gathered on this site, you'll have to go back a little further in the articles to discover those routines. The site's newer plans also push more supplements. BB.com is a supplement distribution site - there's nothing wrong with that, people need supplements and they provide supplements - so they will include the sale of supplements whenever possible because it pays the bills and gives us this free site on which to exchange information. Before spending money on pills and powders (with the exception of protein*), I believe you should spend some time gaining a little body-wisdom and learn how to eat well and exercise regularly and see how your body responds to that. If you want to create your own routine I found the Beginner's Guide To Program Design by Kevin Neeld on this site. It leans towards full body workouts and presents exercises in terms of movement patterns instead of body parts. To be fair, TBT vs. Splits: An Analysis (T-Nation) by Tim Henriques is a nice read on the pros and cons of full-body and split training so you can decide what direction to take on that front.
*Protein powder is a food, the FDA simply allows certain foods to be sold as supplements if a structure/function claim is on the label. Cinnamon is a food if the label suggests using it in a cake, but it is a supplement if it states the product helps to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.Last edited by broad.stance; 12-25-2012 at 06:25 AM.
Hums the theme to Superman during planks and LYTPs. Now that you've read this, you will too.
All right boys, now watch how this is done. The key is to put it all in your groin and your back.
Take your legs totally out of the equation. Lift with your lower back in a jerking, twisting motion.

Thanks for the info!! as far as the patience part that's something i am working on lol i think i get discouraged when i don't see change and start to fall back into old habits, but i think that is largely due to the fact that I've always tried to do it alone and not have a support system, which I'm learning is pretty important to have. Again thank you for the advice
Wow thank you!! there's a lot of really helpful stuff in there! Ive have beagn to look through and i like what ive seen thus far. For the diet tracking ive been using the MyfitnessPal app, which seems to be pretty good, but always got confused as far as what kind of ratios the macros should have. This has been alot of help.
Again thanks to you both!! oh and Have a great Christmas! Id rep you both, but it wont let me"Empowered to Transform, Transformed to Empower"
