I think we all feel we get too heavy, I got up to 250 but I slowly brought it back down within range. If you take long breaks from the stage I feel its ok to put on a few extra lbs to push some extra weight. If I decide to compete again inside of two years I will stay closer to stage conditioning. Thanks for the kind words!

I agree bro, my problem is about 90% of my best lifts were around 185-195. Then I got to 214 and didnt do much extra, lol. I had a few rough life moments in my 2.5 year offseasin obviously that causes a few days or weeks of off diet or splurging.

Big Weekend Update!
This past weekend there were a few big things going. First was the Europa Get Fit & Sports Expo at the Orange County Convention Center, about 15 minutes from my house. Within that event I had two things going on. Layne and Isabel stayed with us so Layne could compete in the Powerlifting meet at the expo. Scivation also had a booth setup which I was helping with. Layne came over Thursday night so he could meet with an IFBB Figure Pro Client and get weighed in nice and early. I was off work Friday so I got up really early and hit the gym for legs first thing before the expo started. Thursday night I met up with Rob and Derek at Gold's gym for a workout. On Friday I hit legs at Gold's alone before heading over to the expo that started at 2. Friday was a slow day at the expo as it was mostly just the vendors setting up and a few of the competitors who were there for pre judging. I left the expo about 6:30 to head home and eat while Rob and Derek were stuck at the expo which was slow until about 10pm.
Saturday was a really busy day. I left the house before 7 to get my Chest\Bi's\Shoulder hypertrophy workout in. I got to the expo and it was already really busy by 10am. layne was scheduled to lift sometime after 10 and I was helping him with some slaps and breaks. I split my time between the booth and Layne's lifts for the first few hours. I had alot of adreanaline built up as Layne totaled a 1680 Personal Best at the meet including at 617 squat, 386 bench and 675 deadlift which was almost 700 as he just missed locking it out. Here is some video, i got some revenge for the massive slaps he put on my back at my last meet as well!

Here is a shot of layne's custom Singlet, The company that makes them is called Outwork Apparel. Pretty appropriate that they sponsor Layne.
The rest of Saturday was spent at the booth with Rob and Derek. I very rarely get to see these guys but its always a great time. We gave out some great samples of ice cold Xtend and dropped some knowledge as well. The best looking and most muscular booth at the expo if I do say so myself.
Saturday after the expo we all went to eat at Fuddrucker's. Rob and Derek had to wait around for the expo to clear out but Layne, Isabel, Misty and a client of mine Josh all headed over and met a few other friends. By the time I got home Saturday I was exhausted. I wanted to stay up and watch some sports but i was out before midnight.
On Sunday we slept in a bit and enjoyed breakfast with the Norton's before we met Rob and Derek at SeaWorld. The six of us rode roller coasters and took in some shows all day. The lines were very short and the weather was perfect. The highlight of the day was watching as Rob got completely drenched in the front seat of the log flume ride...nobody else we saw was remotely as wet as Rob got. Him and Layne in the front weighed so much it actually foreced the front of the log to dip low enough that water just rushed into Rob's seat. Nothing a little ride on another roller coaster didn't fix but it was hilarious to see him try to prevent it from happening. I think we will have some pics coming up from this day as well.
I also saw a bunch of Pro's walking around the expo but none as freaky looking as Jose Raymond.
Pictures don't do this guy any justice.
As we were leaving I also got a shot with Jay Cutler. He is always a great guy in public. Layne and he actually talked for about 10 minutes about thier recovery from muscle tears.
Sunday night I also still managed to get my HIIT cardio in and woke up still at 220 so I know my weekend was a huge success.
Tomorrow morning I leave for one of my best friend's weddings in Mexico. I am staying at an all inclusive resort so I will be working very hard to keep the progress coming. I am sure i will have a beer or two but I will hve the big picture in mind. Tonight is my last workout before I leave so its going to be a good one.Contest Prep Coach

I am both excited to see my friend get married and nervous about all of the shenanigans.
It was a nice day at the park, you would have enjoyed it.
Yeah kids come first I know that. I just wish you came out with them. There were hundreds of kids competing in Jui Jit Su, Karate and other various events. The expo has grown and it really fun to attend.
Here are some pics from SeaWorld. Can you tell Derek is not a fan of fast rides?

It's great to see you around still following. I have been putting in the work for a long time. Sometimes I still feel lanky but I am happy with where I am.
The last pic is decieving. I felt small all weekend next to Rob, Derek and Layne. They are all thick as hell. I think you mean Derek, he looks like he just sucked a lemon. Rob loved the roller coasters!Contest Prep Coach

Ahhhh....just saw this thread...Paul, your progress (namely your '09 journal) has been somewhat of a measuring stick (no pun intended, w/ me being 6'5") as to where I need to be with my own contest prep this year. I'll be following along and wish you continued success!!

Looking awesome dude, good luck! The biggest thing I noticed was the increased thickness in your lumbars and lower lats...those deadlifts definitely paid off! I was curious so I went back to your old log and tried to find a lat spread at a similar weight...here's you back in 2009 at 221. Pretty cool to see the improvements.

Thanks and just keep working hard and you will get there and even better than me.
Rob was drenched, front row got it the worst!
Thanks man that means alot.
I have no idea and honestly i hate my measurements but I can get them this weekend when Adam has his Myo Tape with him.
I am happy with my progress, i just want more of it!
Thanks that is why i initially started a journal because I got so much enjoyment out of people like Rob Moran's contest prep.
Absense makes the heart grow fonder i guess!
I think 3 years of deadlifting will do that so I can't wait to get lean and see it all on stage. Thank you.
see above
Great to have you here.Contest Prep Coach
