Jesus Layne is beast
Tell him I said good luck and kill it
I think the all time drug tested 220 total is around 1725. Layne had hopes of breaking that before his shoulder issue. Still if he feels good on his deadlifts he could approach it.
I was thinking of this video when I squatted last night. Just amazing strength and textbook form.

Yeah definitely not. I'm enjoying it so far. The 20 rep squat sets I was hitting on the 10s wave were such a mental game. Managed to get 285x20 during the realization phase. Want 315x20 thats the goal.
Question for you, are you deloading every 4th week? Or going more by feel?

That would be crazy! Hope that shoulder feels better

Long update....over do but a long weekend and lots going on.
I killed the final week of 5's wave leading into the test week which felt great.
I have video footage from all my sets and will put together a highlight reel at the end of the week. I also have some footage of Dan which I will be putting together.
Last night was my all out set for bench. I got 285 for 8 solid reps. I believe I had a 9th if I felt comfortable with my spotter but Misty was there so I played it safe.
I also hit back, shoulders and some accessory chest work for a solid workout.
I attended a powerlifting meet with Layne over the weekend and will be posting that footage momentarily.

Awesome repout Paul! I hope to hit something like that at the end of my 5's. My best is 285x5. Impressive stuff sir. Yeah I saw your footage of Layne's squats, there was something blocking that side few on his final attempt so I couldn't see the hip crease relative to the knee from that side view. From the front it looked good, I know he was pissed it was red lighted. No doubt the strength is there for 645 and maybe more, just gotta execute on gameday.

Yeah Layne will tweak things a but during training and come back even better.
I also had the pleasure to meet two Australians who came over for the meet. Talk about two big dudes. Brad Humble is on my left and Matt Van Beuningen on my right.
Tonight was a night I have been nervous about for a week now. Last week I had to do 265 for 4 sets of 5. Every rep of every set was tough and I was sure that 290 was going to be a nightmare. last week's deadlifts felt really easy though so I was hoping that would carry over. After warming up with 275 for 2 sets of 1 I figured I was ready. Everything felt good. I got under the bar and got to 5 with no problems. From there I just kept hitting one more rep until I felt I didn't have any left. My last rep actually came up really fast but I was so winded that I stopped. I had one more for sure if I took my time but damn I was gassed. I had the camera rolling and didn't know how many I did until I watched. I was ecstatic to get 10 and that moves my numbers up a bunch for next week's 3's wave. Two more test's this week, Overhead Press and Deadlift. Then I will post a video with highlights from 5's wave.
When are you starting? Have you run it before? The base cycle alone got me from 455 to 500 in less than a month.
I have 6 more weeks of Juggernaut then I will start the base cycle. I am considering cutting off the 1's phase of Juggernaut but its working very well so I don't want to stop the progress.

I'm not going to do the 1's phase, definitely going to max after the 3's and probably start another cycle. I take it you haven't run smolov before, if you're not used to squatting that frequently (and trust me it get's nutty), make sure to run the 2 week intro cycle before starting the base. IMO, the intense cycle isn't really necessary. It's 4 weeks of hell, but if you gain enough on the base you're not going to gain much more on the intense. Something to consider.
And please please please take care of your knees, I'm sure you already know this though. I was doing Defranco's Agile 8 warmup before every session, and taking supercissus/fish oil caps religiously. It's incredibly hard but the rewards are insane for that period of time. I'd also start with 10-15lbs lower than your true max when you begin the base cycle.
Oh and the last thing I did for recovery of the epic DOMS that will ensue, is to take an ice bath for 10 min post workout, literally made it possible to squat the next day.
