Hey bros. I need some advice regarding my MOS
I have a few options, I'm joining the Air Gaurd
1. Pavement and Concrete (comes with sign on bonus)
2.Carpentry (comes with sign on bonus)
3.HVAC
4.Engineering assistant
5.Supply
6.Services
There were a few more but these stuck out to me. I'm leaning towards engineering assistant!

Can you tell me a little more about what you do and if you like it. I know I should not do a job because of the money, but it would be nice!

If it was a job I was interested in, of course I would. Personally, I'd rather do a job I love doing that has no bonus than a job where I'm going to wake up hating life every morning. I'm trying to get back on active duty now and really want to do EOD, but I'm probably going to end up on Contracting because I would need a waiver for hearing to do EOD, and I just want to be back in uniform. I can work on the hearing waiver once I'm back in. Bonuses be damned, I want to do EOD more than anything right now.

Tired of dealing with your average college shythead kid who's never been anywhere or done anything, yet thinks s/he is the greatest thing in the world. I just realized how much more "in tune," if you will, with reality .mils are vs. civvies. Beyond that, I feel that I didn't do shyt with my first enlistment and I want to do more with my life than just sit at a desk pushing paper or some stupid, pointless shyt for the rest of my life. Plus, retire at 30 years, should be CMSGT, 52 y/o, if the investments I'm planning on making work out, I'll be able to retire at 52 and not work again, enjoy 15 more years of retirement than your average civvy. Plus, likely be in better shape to enjoy said retirement due to PT + weight lifting.
Now, please, for those of you who may take offense to that first sentence, if you don't fall into that category, I'm not speaking of you.*Negged by Constitution hating *******s crew*

Typical AF finance. Owe me $4500 from something they messed up in 2007 and it'll be months before they even think bout helping me. If it was reversed, it'd be fixed immediately.

This, no question. I had an issue from tech school where I "owed" them money.
I was initially at Goodfellow for 1N0 training, was there over 20 weeks, so technically a PCS. Washed out of school, too busy worrying about pussy instead of job training. Got re-classed into 3E9 at Ft. Leonard Wood, which was a TDY in route to Offutt(amended to Beale before I left tech). While at FLW, I was told by the finance liaison in my detachment that I would have to come in every month to fill out a travel voucher, which I did, in order to get paid for meals, and I was told NOT to use my meal card and to pay cash instead, which I also did. Get out of tech school, get to Beale, first thing that happens is I get notified that I owe the AF some 8-900 bucks. Call FLW and speak to the finance liaison and ask her WTF was going on, and she said she would NEVER tell me to pay for meals with cash...I'm like WTF, bitch?! Filled out all kinds of paperwork to try to get this BS waived, and it doesn't work. I ended up having to pay "back" money I was told specifically to use to pay for meals and NOT use the meal card...*Negged by Constitution hating *******s crew*

And since i've been separated since August 2011 it's not a priority for them and they really do not care. I have to call my separating duty station's finance to work it out (Hickam AFB) and every single time i've called they've been douches about and it and sounded like they gave 0 fuks. They also refuse to answer any e-mails or ever call me back. I'd be surprised if I see the money this year at all.

Good luck, bro. I hope it works out for you, but if not, don't be too surprised. Veterans are not exactly anyone's priority right now. God forbid the government pays a veteran what s/he is owed after serving his/her country for several years, when we've got poor, helpless lazy bums out there who don't want to work and just draw welfare for the rest of their lives.

Nah man not that I can think of... thanks though. By the way the gym is nice. Went to the main one in the commons area in our compound and has everything you could need. It's separated into 2 small buildings... 1 for cardio **** and 1 for weights. It seems to be crowded a lot of the time but I want at 0400 this morning and it was dead... loved it.
But I heard you give your favorite producer
head in trade for his creative juices.

MOS = ARMY
AFSC = Air Force
16yr CE guy here. (HVAC)
1. "Dirtboys." You drive street sweepers, move dirt, and fix streets. But, they do have a very nice reenlistment bonus.
2. Structures. (What AF calls carpenters) Fix roof leaks, replace/fix doors and windows, build using wood.
3. GODS. lol. We fix/install heating and air conditioning systems from small, to large units. When it's 130 degrees in the desert, we own. (get free leathermans, etc.. lol)
4. EAs. Make/adjust blueprints. QA construction contracts that have been designed by engineers and awarded for work.
5. Logistics. (Used to be called Supply) You work in a warehouse...shipping and receiving for the base you are at.
6. Services. You'll either work in the gym at the counter, in the chow hall making sure the right amount of salt is on food, or billeting making sure hotel rooms get checked in/out correctly.
EA is good if you don't want a job where you're turning wrenches/hammering/driving through dirt. So, it depends on what you're looking for. But then you're going into the Guard...so you'll probably be a CMSgt in like 8 yrs. lol. And buy a flask. I know some guard units chill on their weekend duty and BBQ and drink. That's why when we deploy and take over a guard unit after they leave, we have to fix so much broken shyt, and order a bunch of tools that "somehow" went missing. lolU.S. Air Force CE Troop since 1996 -- "We build, maintain, and protect."

2.5GPA..maybe if they're desperate for pilots, which currently they are not.
Major? Nah. I have a friend who's a C-5 pilot who has a degree in history. A bachelors degree gets you in the door to pilot school, apart from your physical, and pilot/NAV scores on the AFOQT too.U.S. Air Force CE Troop since 1996 -- "We build, maintain, and protect."

I have a quick question regarding rank.
I will be joining as an E-3 after BMT due to college degree and credits. Let's say I'm only active enlistment for four years.
I know you cannot live in the dorms past E-4. Do they allow E-3/E-4 to live off base after a year or two? If not, do four year airmen generally make it to E-5? Or is there a good chance I will be in the dorms for the duration of my enlistment?
I'm also asking because I know that a lot of guys pick up a few hundred extra a month untaxed with BAS + BAH which would be nice.
