hey brahs what's everyone's opinions on renting vs buying? I'm looking at it thinking, well that bah can either be pissed away on rent, or put towards your mortgage and you'll get it back when/if you sell(of course there's the chance of depreciation). I figure save up 10k(cover closing/taxes), and get a VA loan. I have atleast one guy who would for sure rent from me, so charge him 600 a month(costs bout that much to rent a single wide trailer from what we've looked at)+put down 800 a month from my own bah. I'll have over 4 years left on my contract after getting out of the dorms, so I'm looking at 60k taken off the mortgage. actually adds up to 67k, but I figured **** will break and need to be fixed. it'd take a hell of a depreciation to knock off 60k from the homes value, and even if it did lose 60k I got to stay in a much nicer placer than I could've rented for the same cost.
So, am I looking at this all wrong, or does that make some sense?
edit: did not figure property tax into the equation. an extra 6k a year would def change things
