Woohoo! last day of BAT team. The AF could start saving money by getting rid of this crap program. brb drive around 5 mins and pick up all trash on base. brb spend the next 8 hours driving in circles with nothing to pick up.
atleast find other odd jobs for us to help with after we pick up the initial trash

After having served 4 years active duty, once I attend college through the GI bill benefits, would I be able to enroll in the ROTC program there?

It's a wing initiative, and ran by some CE guys. My squadron doesn't care cause it's not their problem(all the squadrons on base rotate sending people), and the CE guys we work with think it's perfectly fine. I guess I could go to the supervision of the CE guys, but I have no idea who that would even be.

Hm. Well, can I get your two cents on my situation?
I am 24 years old and have about 60 credits of college under my belt. I talked to my university's detachment and they said I'd need a total of 3 additional years in order to complete the ROTC program and earn a commission. I could start this fall by enrolling in the classes.
On the other hand, I have already taken the ASVAB and physical'd at MEPS. I was temporarily DQ'd at MEPS a few months ago for a minor issue but since then that's been resolved and I now have the opportunity to re-swear into DEP, which would get me a slot for a job + ship date for this December, my recruiter says.
In the end my ultimate goal is to become an officer. Is it very feasible to go from E to O or should I just play it safe and commit now to ROTC, forgoing the enlistment? If I do end up enlisting, then yeah the plan was to resume college after 4 years AD and join ROTC then. I fear it could be too late, though. And the only reason I'm uncertain about joining ROTC right now is because 3 additional years of college will cost quite a bit and I don't really have the finances to cover it.Last edited by samatash; 08-16-2013 at 02:19 PM.

I'd go straight to ROTC. Look into getting an ROTC scholarship and don't narrow it down to just the Air Force. I regret not joining the Marines srs. The Army also hands out scholarships like candy. Get in touch with your local detachment and talk with the cadre from each branch. If you can't get an ROTC scholarship then look into others specific to your degree, your school, pell grants, and lastly financial aid. There's tons of money out there, and if it does come down to financial aid, you can easily pay it off with an officer salary. If being an O is what you truly want then you'll do anything to get it.

What's up, i'm currently DEPin' with the USAF and want to try my hand at Airborne Cryptologist. All is well except I don't have depth perception based on my MEPS vision test (I know I have it irl, dam that test). Anyway, my available jobs list still lists 1A431 as available ( im scheduled to take the DLAB soon) so does that mean depth perception is not required for this MOS or that i'll only be officially DQ'd once I take my class III flight phyisical? Thanks usaf brahs.

Wait I'm confused. So you can join the air force as enlisted and then become an officer while you're in? Can someone clarify. I'm really looking to join but at the same time I don't want to be making enlisted pay the whole time that I'm in.

yes because thats what i am doing. There are programs out there like OTS and SOAR i believe. You could also be accepted to the Accademy if your already Enlisted. All of these of course have to have your commanders recommendation.
If i get accepted in the next 2 years, ill be 24 so it will almost be like i went to college first then commissioned. except i would have 6 years under my belt already!instagram.com/dthomj

they still deploy people places where they get that full rate per diem everyday? I have to fly my ass off to hit 2g a month in per diem. only managed it twice so far.
I've heard alot of stories from crew chiefs back in the day. putting those bastards off base their whole deployment and getting full per diem the entire 6 months. ridiculous
