I'll be a sophomore in school after this semester and still don't know what I want to major in really, so im reconsidering enlisting again.
What are some jobs that translate well salary wise into the civilian world?
I was thinking of finance/accounting and IT. Any other options?Positive Crew

Decided to enroll in AFROTC next semester, a we have to take a physical with height and weight.
For my height the max I can weigh is 186. How does that work for people who lift? The last time I cut I got down to 191 with abs.
Am I expected to cut even more? Or lose muscle to pass the physical?Positive Crew

keep in mind most AFROTC cadets are 160lb skinnyfat nerds, as will be most of your cadre
you will have to get a sports physical (much simpler than it sounds) before you can start participating in PT, which entails a physician weighin you and checking the box regarding whether you meet the weight standard or not. if not, they'll tape or w/e. it is not like the ROTC cadre will weigh you in at the detachment and then tell you to go cut or else.
regardless, my advice is to just lose the weight now and dont let it become an issue. if you take rotc seriously (which you will have to, as its competitive and a commission is not guaranteed these days), you'll end up finding that 1-2 years from now you won't be lifting and focusing on lifting as much

My dreams just been crushed.
Cliffs: Former Army 11B Infantryman, joined Army Reserves as 25B I.T Specialist.
Was looking to go to Air Guard as TACP as its something I wanted to do. tried to do branch transfer and they required a physical for TACP, forced to get an MRI for my back injury from 2008 and was disqualified even though i kicked ass on PAST.
Now looking at other options that are available to me: Diagnostic Imaging, Biomedical Equipment, Aerospace Medical Service. Diagnostic Imaging sounds very interesting but heard after tech school there is a 9 month heads on training. Can someone clarify this?

Hmmmm. is medical field something you really want to do, or were those just the jobs that stood out as good jobs? I don't think we have any medical miscers, but we have a few normal posters in here that work in different career fields. Medical seems like a good job if you can deal with working around a lot of females. Hoping someone can help you out cuz.

Nothing like a little notice before deploying. Was supposed to leave a week from now but woke up to a call this morning saying I'm leaving tomorrow. Sucks man but my body is ready.

Thanks brah.
Thanks for the heads up. I did look at some pics from the schools website and yea most of the cadets don't look like they lift.
I asked the recruiting commander if I could be competitive majoring in sociology with like a 3.6. He wouldn't give me a straight answer. Can anyone give some insight with this? Im still undecided but leaning towards sociology, CS, or kinesiology. A could probably pull a 3.0-3.3 in a STEM major but im really interested in sociology and know I can pull a 3.5+.
Im in AROTC now (no negs) and they're handing out scholarships to basically anyone with a 3.3+. Anyone think it would be worth it to pursue afrotc or stay where im at?Positive Crew

Competitive for a scholarship? Maybe, maybe not. Competitive for a slot to field training? Yes, that will do. Selection for summer field training is ultimately what will determine whether you can become an officer or not. Those that do not get selected (you find out about midway through spring semester sophomore year) get disenrolled by the cadre and turned away. It's not like Army ROTC where if you will become an officer no matter what and only have to compete for active duty.
If I was given a choice between AROTC and AFROTC and had equal chance at both, I would go with AFROTC no doubt. To give you an idea those who don't make the cut for NROTC or AFROTC head to AROTC, lol.
One last thing. When I mentioned it's competitive, I'm not just talking about GPA. You will be ranked amongst your peers by your cadre and placed in one of three tiers. Factors other than GPA include test scores, leadership in organizations like arnold air society, volunteer work, etc.Last edited by samatash; 11-12-2013 at 06:37 PM.

Medical field is something I do want to get into. Right now in civilian work I work as a Network Engineer. I used to like it but its so repetitive. I have been looking at applying back to college for something medical related. X-ray tech, paramedic are something I am very interested it.
I don't mind working around females, as long as I stay away from their gossip and problems I will be fine.
I chased money and right now I am not happy. I rather make $50k and be happy then make 100k+ and hate my life as its the case right now.
Two friends are in civilian world, they seem to be enjoying their lives and love their jobs.
