We missed our connecting flight at Atlanta, spent a free night in a hotel instead of in bunk beds at BMT and got to chill with 4 of what would be my new flight mates. Good times and definitely got some great sleep

first time a 0 week story beats mine lol. we had a bunch of guys get in around 4am so our flight ended up sleeping in til around 1100.

Anyway, I have a question. Has anyone in this thread ever received a challenge coin during their service? If so can you say which branch it was from and why it was given to you?

In the military, it's extremely easy to get coins. I've gotten about 14 of them including all coins I've ever got, including BMT and others. I've gotten coins from the navy and from a civilian company while I was deployed. Not the right medium to talk about it, but it's nice to have to look back when you have a bad day.

I got a 2 star IG coin as an Airman, It was honestly the coolest thing ever. That or the coin I got for helping the brits out in the desert with their refueling pods, because even though Flight Refueling limited is a british company and manufacturer, they have no idea how that **** works... And the TO's seem to have been written by a half retarded goldfish... Yeah.

Seriously almost bought a 100$ worth when they were about 8 cents a piece or somewhere near that a couple years ago because some guy I used to work with that is huge into computer security n chit(works for microsoft tier 3 security now) told me to but I never though they would be worth anything and the only thing to spend them on at the time was illegal chit really. He sold his off when they were at about 20$ and I don't think anyone could have predicted that they would hit over 100$ a piece. I know if I had bought the 100$ worth I would have sold them around that 20$ mark as well, if not before.

It would have been great to get in early, but its such a volatile and speculative investment. It's definitely an interesting occurrence, but at this point, I'd be more interested in shorting it, rather than investing.

Exactly. At the time, and even now (hell especially now) the possible cons outway the positive. There still isn't enough info about it and the only value is if the people behind it actually hold true to their word and keep the max limit at 21 million. If they get greedy and decide to up it, goodbye value.

That happened to my flight too. I remember laying on my bed staring at the top bunk waiting for shiz to go down. Felt like forever.

This. Every time I deploy I come back with 5 or 6 coins it seems like. I've only gotten a couple where I remember who and why, the rest were just given out to us in a group or for leaving (surviving) the deployed location.

Just started watching "Inside Combat Rescue."

Great show.

Those Air Force PJ's are really impressive.

Saw them perform a Tracheotomy on a guy hit by IED while on a moving helicopter and they nailed it.

Highly recommend the show if you haven't seen it...although I bet some people ITT have already lived it.

my first experience with an avionics guy was awesome(granted it was some dumb airman during ftac)had a kid try and tell me that c17's never have anything go wrong and are super reliable. coming straight from altus I might have only had 30 flying hours, but still a fcuk ton more than this kid. explained to him how every flight I had had a few writeups + half the flights I had were delayed a couple hours because of an issue that kept us grounded. dude told me I was wrong, so I told him "urine idiot" and walked away

oh I understand that, but the kid tried to tell me that all of the above that I mentioned never happened. my last flight was with a chief who was brand new to the 17, from b2's, and he spent 17 days straight praising how much better the 17 was

I'd go 130's in a heartbeat......if it was to AFSOC. I think the only AFSOC plane us loads are left with is the mc-130 for now. everything else has gone to damned 1a9.

Breaking is sometimes a good thing.

Especially when it is on a tropical island for 2 weeks...

Haha....breaking may sometimes be a good thing for flight crew, but for us maintainers, it's never a good thing. You guys just say "it's broke, I'm heading to the hotel"......we have to put in 16 hour shifts to fix it.

Basically, Which is why i am glad that our Aircrew is usually pretty cool about stuff. Our aircraft can fly land missing 2 engines, an entire hydraulic system (Hell, both hydraulic systems is the runway is long enough) and half of their avionics equipment... So if something stupid is broke, or something is leaking "just a little" they let it go 99% of the time if we tell them it will take more then a couple of hours to fix.

That said, we still have one of the highest MC rates in the AirForce, even though the aircraft is about 55 years old

They didn't happen to get grounded in places like Germany, Spain, Greece, Diego, or Hawaii, did they? Maybe I'm thinking of C-5s.

I am going to Afsoc I am going to totally pretend I am in special operations XD...

When I was like 13, I found out I couldn't do CSAR because I am a female, I was so sad! (Yeah I wanted to be a PJ when I was younger) at least I get to be close to it. How much closer can I get then fixing the Aircraft right?
