I haven't seen any emails about it, but where I am we got to 'dial in' to watch the briefing about it. bunch of civilians and officers deciding what to do for enlisted performance reports...
but yeah, I don't know if I like the percentages...but it's inevitable so we'll see

How would a government shutdown effect inprocessing?
-
09-26-2013, 11:58 PM #4743
It wouldn't, unless everyone you inprocess with is a civilian or contractor.
not sherrif srs... limited % of 5s would only work if everyone closed out on same date. BRB gave out all my 5s for the year, sorry Timmy, you're getting a 4. I agree with boards, surprised about tig/tis, though. Not really opposed to the idea, just never thought of that one being taken out.3D072 - Cyber Systems Operations

Nah, they were talking more along the lines of giving the Sq CC final say in the EPR process. Based on that SQ's 'avg' rating, there'd be a certain number (read percentage) that were actually better than the rest. The key is going to become stratification. If 'everyone is a 5' then it's up to the commander to decide out of all those, who's actually the best.

Actually, sounds like the PECD date for everyone. I won't say much more than that.
Careful who you send that to man, had an e-call with our Chief today and he pretty much told us he'd wreck anyone that sends info about this over email. I guess a chief that initially leaked the email is getting his **** handed to him right now.
With all that said, I think this is definitely on the right track for EPRs and WAPS. Can't wait to see what else changes in regards to WAPS.3D072 - Cyber Systems Operations

i'm fukking scared about all this EPR, HYT, boards, and crap.... i feel like the last 13 years i've put in will be a waste if HYT for TSgt is reduced. no one has said anything, but i know it's coming.

I feel like they'll have to give SOMETHING for time in grade. Even if I don't agree with those who have been in longer being promoted before those who have made it their 1st/2nd try(any grade) , they can't have all young guys being the heart and core of the air force. With my AFSC, knowledge usually comes with time, and to see that have no point is going to gut the enlisted rank. I'd just recommend studying your tail off now to make it in the next few years. The SNCO (E-7) going before a board has been a long time discussion between chiefs, I've even heard it from chiefs when I was an A1C.
I don't like the idea of percentages making ranks per station.. due to the fact that everyone at one base might be nartards and at another base everyone may be spot on. We'll see what the future holds I guess.

I think this washingtontimes article described the problems with stack ranking pretty well.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...mance-reviews/
The reason many organizations began using stack rankings or distribution curves in the first place is that they believed managers were handing out too many As, avoiding tough discussions with their poor performers and failing to appropriately recognize their real stars. But rather than take the effort to train or teach managers how to make the hard decisions about poor performers, or do a better job of not hiring mediocre workers on the front end, companies put in arbitrary curves that could have a toxic impact in the long run.
This will not end well.

Lmao at our super smart leaders thinking this will make "our stars stand out"..
What they mean is the Hard, good brained workers will get stumped even more, and the hot chicks that don't know **** and the buddies will be put forward even more.

Removing PT from EPR is worse decision ever. Needs to be more important than Pass/Fail.

oh lawd! LOL
341s don't exist outside the training environment, and the NCOs you have in tech school don't carry them. so no.
this is what I 'joked' about before about the briefing about it being all civilians and officers sitting around the table discussing ENLISTED performance. they know what's best for us.
not srs
THIS! Instead of removing it they should make it ratable and worth points for promotion. that would separate the fatphucks from the people who give a damn.Rep military on sight crew

EPRs/WAPS will not change dramatically, if at all.
"Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back."

Mostly this. If they don't change the formula for how EPRs are calculated for WAPS, the bottom 75% getting 3s or lower will see drastically less points for WAPS. Now, granted, the individual will still need to study their ass off to promote. I think it will be interesting to see how this will affect overall scores and cutoffs without the inflated 5 EPRs.
What you guys fail to see is that PT still falls under standards and conduct. If someone is currently in a "Fail" status on their pt test during close out of the EPR, they will be marked "Does Not Meet" in the Standards block on the EPR, receive a referral and will not be able to WAPS test that year.
Our Chief was saying that he thinks tech will be increased back to 22 and SMSgt may be increased back to 28. Obviously a decision has not been made, so it could be BS.
The whole deal is suppose to be rolled out early FY 14, so probly within the next 3-4 months. I would guess implementation wouldn't be until FY15.
Top 10% in each unit will be stratified is what we were told. My Chief said he will personally stratify all the enlisted in our unit.3D072 - Cyber Systems Operations
