With two high school near you, there will be a surplus of newbies and bench warriors looking for a gym. Also, bench contests usually attract a big crowd even if all you give out is a free shirt promoting your gym.
I would pay at least 30 for your gym, sounds like it will be badass. Nothing like a stereo playing something besides Justin beiber and all kinds of useful equipment for engaging beast mode.Florida Gulf Coast University Powerlifting

The problem with this is that many newbies get demotivated when they see the huge guys there lifting huge weights. It's intimidating. Because of this you're gonna have to find a way to transform this intimidation into motivation. If the huge guys laugh and point at the skinny newbies they're not gonna come back to your gym ever. I'm guessing you could fix this by making the huge guys help the skinny guys in some way, helping them with their form or spotting them or just being friendly. Don't know how you're gonna manage that though. But if you manage to do this you're gonna have a very lucrative gym.
Oh and forgot to say, I'm not sure about the guys in here but I'd guess that huge guys don't like being in gyms full of skinny ***gots, so that's a problem too since as you said you had 2 high schools nearby and a lot of these skinny****s will surely join.

I will let my members progress speak a lot for the gym as well, sure most of the clients in the beginning will be experienced and a few new people ,but the faster they make results the faster the word spreads, unlike these franchise gyms who never really get results.
Ill also do a lot of going out and promoting the gym, being the only gym in a huge area is good as well.Fitness Author at Bodybuilding.com, T-Nation, EliteFTS

It will be a positive training environment so I guess my rule is you can do whatever the **** you want to do if your polite and safe. I know how it is to be weak , I benched 100 pounds when people working out around me all did more, but then I got 300 bench in less then 2 years.
I will also be personally helping noobies , and when you visit you'll get a guide on all the unique equipment , that could entice a lot of people?
Maybe I have a rule, if I see you helping new members and being encouraging , I could cut your price per month down some, since in a way your helping my business promote itself?Fitness Author at Bodybuilding.com, T-Nation, EliteFTS

That's why you need to get staff with the right attitude, you can't really force members to take on that role.
I've worked with a lot of PT's and instructors that only talk to their friends/regulars/big guys when circling the floor, sometimes they even have a laugh at the new lifters... then the next day you see the new guy out of the free weight area and back on those silly stack weight machines.
You need friendly/supportive floor staff to give them a bit a pep talk here and there so they are comfortable lifting in a more serious environment. Sometimes all it takes is to explain that big guys aren't judging them, everyone starts somewhere, we all fail on lifts sometimes you just got to stick with it etc.

I'm not sure that would work considering the "if I see you helping new members and encouraging" is very abstract. Maybe having some kind of "tutor" system would work, where huge guys agree to help the newbie guys, kind of like a PT but not full time, and in turn they get discounts. I dunno. The concept is good though.
You're a fukin greedy kunt, any miscer would do this for free, especially considering OP is opening a gym for miscers. Hell OP if you start a thread about it I'm sure you'll get a lot of logos and flyers and stuff for free.

How can bodybuilders pose in my mirrors if they got a shirt on? lol Id say you can take your shirt off for a bit , but don't just take it off everyday even when your doing legs...

I might can make it work secretly , not openly advertise it to everyone though. Say I have a pretty cool big guy in the gym I tell him
" Hey bro your obviously an experienced lifter and I am trying to motivate more people to get to your level , if I cut your membership down some could you help people occasionally? "Fitness Author at Bodybuilding.com, T-Nation, EliteFTS

Been skimming the thread bro, so not sure if this has come up.
Great on the oly lifting sets, so hard to find gyms with those. Make sure you build at least one (preferabbly two) platforms (are they called bounce platforms?) into those power racks where you have the oly lifts set up. So I could do a clean or snatch, step back and let the weight fall. Those platforms can also double as DL etc for those who want to do them.
I'm kinda cheap, but I've found most smaller gyms I've been to in the $30-$40 /month range. I like being able to pay cash month to month, not big into contracts and signing fees like most gyms seem to have. Many sociologists argue that nothing rots a child's brain like television, but I've found virtually all hydrogen peroxide based gasses to be quite effective.

I might have 1 , attracts new members and gets result...... but no counterbalanced bar BS, my smith machine bar will be 45lbs.
DONT say it doesn't get results, I gained 50 pounds on my free weight bench strictly using a smith machine and dumbbells.
Plus people can do calf raises on smith machines along with seated calf raises. Yea I will get one I am sure.Fitness Author at Bodybuilding.com, T-Nation, EliteFTS
