garage gyms - complaints of noise?
Hi guys, was just wondering......... for those of you with garage gyms, could you give me a general description of your neighborhood........like maybe how far houses are from each other and the type of people living there? And how often the neighbors complain about the noise? (if at all)

My garage is about 40-50 feet from my neighbors garage, about twice that to their house. Pretty close but we have an odd coldesac set up. They dont complain at all but I do try to keep all doors shut and stay relatively quiet. Sometimes a PC will get away from me and slam or a dead lift or I might grunt on heavy squat or something but not too much noise

Is a Turtle
When I was training in my garage the nearest neighbor was at least .5 miles away I was literally uncomfortable at the volume I was able to get the music and screaming up to

We have the gym in half of the basement. Neighbors next door to the left, and two doors down on the right, claimed their house vibrates or rumbles when the weights drop. On top of that, five neighbors on the other side of the street say the same thing. The lady on the left, we use the left side of the basement, said the plates in her cupboard rattle and pictures on the wall have to be adjusted. They're not too happy. One called the gas company because he thought his furnace was causing the problem. One called the police because she thought we were cooking meth! I find it hard to believe, these are good sized homes on decent sized lots, not on top of each other.
I added an extra layer of rubber to the platform, so it is two 3/4 inch plywood sheets and two 1 inch rubber mats. Did not seem to help. I guess it is the ground vibration (?) they are feeling and not noise they hear. I thought the Werk-san and Uesaka platforms (their rubber actually) was fairly quiet and absorbed the shock well. You might look for a softer rubber for the top mat.
Oh well, their dogs bark.

We do, or my son does. I know they were happy when he went away to school, not so when he returned.

Is he still lifting at all? Would have been great to have him in the big 94 mix.

Yes, he's actually been hitting PRs. It's pretty loud downstairs. His job makes it tough for him to plan for meets and workouts. He refuses to let anything appear on YouTube though and I have to say I agree with him.

I don't blame you with all the criticisms going on with the people who are posting their vids. Good to hear he's still lifting and making PR's!!!

Actually, it is the training lifts he does not care about, I think he cares about what you lift in competition, not training. So, right now, he lifts because he loves to lift. I hope, as he moves up in the company, he can get a schedule that will allow return to national, and international, competition. But, that will be his call.
