So being new means there is a lot of stuff that needs to get done or be studied. So even on a runless day (which has only happened once so far) I am still not typically getting in bed till about midnight.
Anyway to that was just kind of a lead in. Last set ran the first 22hours of the shift without a run. Crashing out at midnight. Woken up at 5am for a tanker roll over. 7 hours later we finally clear scene. After that takes us about an hour to get ourselves fully back in service. We currently our covering two stations. So we finally our headed back to our station so we can eat and actually dress out for the day. Tones MVC go run that call. Rubber Necker nonsense. Then make it back to the station to eat and dress out. Go a couple of hours doing training and some other paperwork. Time to start diner. Put the food in the oven. Tones for another MVC. This one for an unrestrinded driver that came off the hwy. started rolling their car going over the frontage road and into a field. Fairly fast call. Load and go to the hospital. Go back finish diner. Get some paperwork signed off. Time to get ready for bed. It's about 11:30 at this point. Going to turn out the light and get in bed tones drop.
Mutual aid fully involved burn fire. Two and a half hours on scene. one to get back inservice and get home. Finally back in bed about 3:30 am. Wake up at 6:30 for shift change. And after all that day of long calls all I can say is I love my job.R.I.P. Hela

good luck and study hard ^
Question: Why is it normally standard to refer to employees of public interest and emergency services by their last name?
Go to a business or hospital and call someone by their last name and they'll freak (not really)ツ Forever Alone Crew ツ

Many military folks know the name "MAJOR GENERAL FREDERICK WILHELM, BARON VON STEUBEN", the auther of Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States, aka the "Blue Book"
His manual was intended to instill discipline in troops and bring order to the ranks. It was later added that to create discipline, you had to seperate friendships and develop leaderships. Since many military men back then were neighbors and friends from the same towns or villages, everyone knew each other by first names. To create a more professional atmosphere and to seperate leaders from soldiers, it came about to address NCOs by their rank and last name. Soon it was spread to all ranks

Yeah it's crazy the amount of stuff you get to see in the ED. Also how much more often your pumping chest during a code.

I heard of some nurses on instagram complain about them not getting public service discounts or benefits even though they work in the medical field and save lives.
In in opinion, why should they care about that when they're getting paid 3-4x what we're making.
And it's not only about what we're making too, they're making bank, a lot more than the average american.ツ Forever Alone Crew ツ

I will share my morning from yesterday.
So I'm standing in our trailer at work talking nonsense with a couple coworkers when another one of our coworkers opens the door and says "Someone just walked by and said there is a Cardiac arrest on the 7th floor of the parking lot". I tell one of our supervisors sitting 20 feet away, my partner and I hop in our ambulance and drive the 100 feet and 5 of us go upstairs. CPR was in progress. We start doing our thing, put her on the monitor and see "VFIB", 1 defibrillator shock and her pulse is back. We get her to the bus and finish wrapping up our protocols and drive the 1000 feet to the ER.
After everything is all done I go into the room and she's wake so I ask her how she's doing and that I'm glad we could help her and she replies "I know you". I take a good look her face and I realize I do know her. I've spoken to her many times at the children's side of the hospital.
A few hours later I went to see how she was and told me "my ribs hurt, probably from the CPR". I responded "which one would you rather, hurt ribs or.....".
The next call we got a lady that completely shattered her knee when she slipped on some water and landed on it on a school hallway floor.
Took me almost 8 hours to wind down.

On another subject, Emt class is kicking my ass.
Feels like I've got all the information floating in my head but i'm not able to connect things together, or put things together quickly enough if you guys know what I mean.
Any good site for studying? overall tips?
I'm sure it's been mentioned before. Wish there were some stickies here.Last edited by CanardLaque; 01-24-2015 at 08:09 AM.

Good Morning!!!!! Couldn't think of a better way to start the day. Finishing off a shift trade and starting my regularl B shift!!!!
Started the day with a 3am wake up call for a chest pain...No problem wake up at 330 to drive to work anyway.
The kept my plan of working out and breathing down a bottle while I was at it. (Didn't breath it dry just because of it being 5am didn't want to wake anyone up) but still a great workout. Got to start the day off right stop from feeling like your getting older. Because well now on paper I am lol.
Hope everyone whether on shift or off as a great day!!!!
Stay safeR.I.P. Hela

My most recent ambulance call where my ******* was tight.
10 month old having a seizure. Check temp, 99.5.
History of seizures
as we get the kid in the back he is still seizing but the dad is just ****ing freaking out and the kids breathing is starting to slow down. I tell my partner to toss me a bag to get ready to breath for him while he draws up midazolam and I look for an IV. Dad is asking if we are going to do anything for him and why we sitting here and yada yada yada. I explain to him we are getting our drugs ready to give to him so he will stop seizing, I'm breathing for him since his body is so worn out.
We give our 1mg of versed and I start bagging while I tell our extra person from the engine to put the pedal to the metal lol. The kid starts coming back to as we get closer to the hospital but no perfect yet.
After a few minutes of being at the hospital the kid is back to normal and back to himself. Dad shakes my hand and thanks me for all we did.
First serious pedi call and I felt we could have done better but my partner said it couldn't have gone better.Leo/Military Supporter. Bustin my ass to save yours!!!!!!

How did it work out? 10 pt contacts for me can be 1 day depending on the day of the week.
Nice job man. I find that part of the job to be the most difficult for outsiders to understand, the fact that we are moving at a slower to moderate pace and it appears that we aren't "doing anything or not worried. I tell people that even if I am panicking I can't show you that. I'm there to help and that doesn't help anyone if I'm looking like a mess.
