in on this thread. so Ive recently come across several entry level firefighter positions in my area and am interested in them. however, I really know nothing about the process. obviously I'm going to do some serious research but I figured I'd come and ask some brahs who have firsthand knowledge about this sort of thing.
I fit all of the basic requirements...
Age: 18
US Citizen: Yes
High School Grad/GED: Yes
Valid State Driver's License: Yes
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Vision: 20/100 uncorrected and correctable to 20/20 in each eye.
College: No
Academy Certification: No
Prior Experience: No
then it says fireTEAM and CPAT required. all testing through NTN. so the CPAT is the physical test....is the fireTEAM a written exam?

Yes the CPAT is the physical test, it's an obstacle course that kinda mimics some of the job related duties. FireTEAM is a video based test with 4 parts, essentially a written exam. We don't use the test here but this website breaks it down for you:

And here is the CPAT:

Had to catch out for 4 hours on the ambulance. Some how only made 2 runs but one was a 14 yo female that aborted a 4 month fetus into the toilet.
Then we had a motor cycle accident, no helmet, good lac on his chin, sluggish pupils. It was a 20 minute code 3 run to the hospital.Leo/Military Supporter. Bustin my ass to save yours!!!!!!

Without a doubt, my inability to keep from beating myself up when I made a mistake. I'd spend so much time beating myself up after every little mistake when in reality, that's just part of the job. Nobody comes out of the academy and just crushes it in all aspects of the job, there's just far too much to learn. Learning by making mistakes is something that everybody goes through and it's important to be able to move on after you do something stupid.

This, always be first in line to do something. It's all about making mistakes, that is how you learn. Know your rules and regulations because you can look like a shining star when an old head asks a question pertaining to your MOP's and SOP's. Plus it always good to know your job forward and backwards.
That is something I've been needing to refresh up on since coming out of medic school.Leo/Military Supporter. Bustin my ass to save yours!!!!!!
