I kinda hope this movie won't make it to theaters.
Synopsis from Imdb:
"The Paramount Pictures star studded major comedy thriller feature film "Pain and Gain" is beginning production April 6th in Miami, FL. The story is based on true events surrounding a group of bodybuilders who engage in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder in Florida during 1994."
This will only add to the stereotypes that bodybuilders are typical no brainers and anything they do wrong will automatically assumed to be the direct result of steroids. The worst part is that the stereotypes won't strictly be relegated to bodybuilders, but to anyone that basically looks like they lift.
Plus it's labeled as a "comedy thriller", I can see this movie seriously mocking bodybuilders and wouldn't be surprised if a lot of misconceptions about the gym and lifting by some of the creators/producers wind up being added in.

its a Michael Bay film starring The Rock and Mark Wahlberg. Sorry but I highly doubt that this film won't make it to theaters. And who knows maybe it could give bodybuilding the attention it needs. I think this could go either way, but regardless i'm happy bodybuilding is getting any attention whatsoever. Any publicity is good publicity

I can't logically see a "bodybuilder" being used as a plot device for anything positive. The message that bodybuilders are really just people, no different than the wide variety of types of people who AREN'T bodybuilders is too boring and wouldn't be worth the effort or attention being given to it. Otherwise, they eat too much, they eat too little, what they eat is totally tasteless and boring, they're really strong, they're way weaker than they lookthey're clumsy and knock over random large objects, they're under IQ'd, undersexed, under the influence of both mind-altering and physique changing drugs, active in underground gay pron, a liability in anything involving quickness, stealth, or agility.
The only good things a bodybuilder could do any differently is to, like, break a padlock off something by hand, being able to arrest multiple people all at once by using a rope, preventing an escape by an antagonist by stopping a car, bus, train, elevator, crane, etc with just his body, his excessive weight somehow serves to help nab a bad guy by accident...
The only example of a bodybuilder doing great acting in recent memory was Jay Cutler "acting" like he deserved the Sandow in '07Time To Re-Schedule
