[QUOTE=xephonics;1051777221]My simple version of a deadlift jack
All in 1" galvanized pipe, painted with some rustoleum, and the bar cup/holder is covered in spray on rustoleum rubber sealant (as to not scratch the bar)
Part list:
two 3" nipples
2" nipple
12" nipple
3 tees
1 elbow
1 cap
Great Idea. I've been looking to buy a mini deadlift jack but this would be a lot cheaper to make. I think I now have a project for next weekend!

i should have some tips laying about, the one in hasn't been used for too long at the moment, this roll of wire just generally has been quite bad compared to others I've used.
my argon/co2 bottle will be delivered on thursday, so i'm going to grind down a few of the bad welds and redo them correctly.-!!!---!!!- No Excuses Homemade Equipment Crew #4 -!!!---!!!-

I got tired of making the stuff, although I have a lot of plans still in my head. I've moved on to making other things.
Can't remember who but somebody posted some of equipment I made years ago at this link. Good luck in all your endeavors.
There is a real satisfaction in building something yourself.

When I was cutting a lot of metal, many years ago, I either used a hacksaw machine (power hacksaw) or a horisontal band saw (aka bandsaw machine or cutting bandsaw). If you plan on doing a lot of fabricating, these types could be worth looking into. Ought to be available on the second hand market. (I sourced most of my equipment through talking to machine shops, second hand machinery dealers, bankrupcy liquidators, et.al.)
Hacksaw Machine
Horisontal Band Saw
Other pieces of equipment I found useful when finishing or preparing tubing for welding were disc and belt sanders:

Didn't see this thread till today. Wish I would have posted here before I started building my rack.
I have a bunch of #14 rebar and 3x3x3/8" angle that I can use for free so I'm building my own rack. I have the frame finished, but I still have to put hooks on for my squat and bench positions. I'm gonna use some angle with quarter inch plate on the back to give me an incline to the rack and a larger area of weld for my squat and bench bar positions. Still haven't decided what I am gonna do about spotter bar supports yet. Would finish today but it is raining. Weighs close to 400 pounds right now and hasn't cost me a dime.
Edit:
Finished sandblasting the pieces that are gonna be my J-Hooks. Angle will have the small pieces welding on the front and the triangle plate will be under the angle to add support.

This is the first rack I've seen made out of re bar, I can't wait to see the finished result.

These are some dead simple accessories I made to save some cash.
Rack pins for a Powerline rack out of 3/4" x 6" bolts, washers, and 3/4" black pipe.
Dip bars made from two fence posts, two pieces of conduit, and four nails.
Bar storage hooks. LOL Fancy! They keep the bar high enough so I don't bump my head.
Basic "plate rack" style compact plate storage out of 3/8" ply, conduit, and all-thread.

I would avoid a power hacksaw at all cost. You would be far better off with a bandsaw and they give better results.
If the power hacksaw an odd ball sized blade then it is sometimes hard to find blades. They also tend to wear out along the "ways" after lots of use (poor maintenance) and you can end up with a dud if you don't know what you are looking at.
