Cool The 'No Excuses Homemade Equipment Crew'

First there was the 'Equipment Crew'...
...then there was the 'York Crew'...
    ...followed by the Ivanko..

...now we have the 'No Excuses Homemade Equipment Crew'.

This thread is for people that have decided to step away from the pre made and ordinary. Anyone that has decided that not having the money for a home gym, does not give the excuse to sit on the couch. The people that want to build something equal or greater then the norm. The people that train in basements, bedrooms, and gardens ...with there homemade contraptions built for pain and growth. Iron, steel, wood, sand, rubber, bolts, screws and any other raw material is welcome within this thread. It doesnt have to be painted- rust is a valid coating for your bars and plates, as are chalk, sweat, and blood. Dungeons, tombs and sweat boxes of the world unite. This is your thread to show your designs/what you have built/how you have built it.

Only qualifications needed are the will to train, the ability to build your own gear, and a photo to show your homemade implements. If you want in, say 'IN'. If I miss your post, PM me for your crew number.

Don't know where to start? ...Stick around for some ideas. Here are some links to kick things off.

No money? ...NO EXCUSES!!! SHUT UP and BUILD.

Here is the solid axle I made. It is 6 feet long and made from 1-15/16 inch cold rolled 1018 steel. It weighs 62 pounds with the inside collars in place. The diameter is 1.938" compared to my Troy power bars which have sleeves of 1.960.

The inside collars are the Climax Metal H1C-193. I applied Oxpho Blue to blacken the steel. Total cost was about $130.

Great job. I've always wanted to make a solid axle. All of mine are made from thick wall scaffold tube. Those collars are exactly what I am after for my next project.

    In!!!

    I want number 6

BRB taking soome pics of stuff I have made or lashed to the ceiling as you will see.

    Frankenbench

She started her life as a powetec WB-LMP but I decided that I needed to get in on the freeweight presses. I brought a rack and used the powertec for my shoulders and for the leglift accessory. I then wanted to start doing incline bench but the bulk of the leverage mechanism wouldn't fit in the rack so I made this new base section to attach the bench to.

    Close up of wheels

    Rust for OP

    Wooden utility bench

I neede something to go in my new rack and I didn't want to buy a crappy bench with my limited funds. Frankenbench hadn't been conceived yet so I made this to fill the gap. People think wood is not strong enough for exercise equipment but this has been tested with all the weight I could find be it plates, people or kitchen utensils. I know from my tests that it is good for 600lbs!

    Wooden dip station

I needed a dip station and didn't have the cash to buy one. One trip to B&Q with £15 in my pocket and voila a dip station has emerged. I'm currently toying with the ide of adding some kind of assistance mechanism to it soon as I have gained 20lbs in weigh since I last did dips and they are hard as ****!

    Defecit platform

I use this for SLDL's to get a good stretch and I also use it for 6" defecit deadlifts. I didn't pay a penny for it either as I rescued it from a skip on a site I was working at. It's bloody strong as well as it had a 400kg pump on it originally!

    40kg rock bag

I wanted a sandbag but didn't want to pay £125+ for one. This cost me £9 to make and weighs 40kgs. I'm going to add various straps to it soon. for more versatility. I use it for carries and rows. It really tests the grip!

    Pullup bar

I had some 28mm dowel left over from the dip station and some blue rope. I wanted a pullup bar so I lashed it to the trusses of my garage roof...nuff said really!

    I have a DIY platform:

and a DIY dip bar attachment for my rack

(it's the black bars tied together with green rope)

I also have a DIY reverse hyper "attachment" for my rack (no pics at the moment)

    Does this count?

    Cable row attachment

Another simple story. I replaced the overflow from my water tank in the loft and had some 40mm PVC pipe left over. I cut two sections of and made an attachment for my low row pulley.

    Monkey bars

I kid, I kid! I needed to free up some space so I lashed my ladder to the ceiling. Every inch counts when you train in a single car garage. I was thinking of securing it more permanently to the ceiling so I could use it as monkey bars but decide that I need to be able to get it down easily if I need to use it.

@fishpat- THat bench and dip frame are excellent. Wooden benches take me back to the oldskool gym I trained at in the early days.
If built right, wooden benches are stronger then any man will ever need. You have a talent for woodwork thats for sure. Your photos
should be a sticky for any new member that says they cant afford a gym. Wood is readily available, relatively cheapcand easy to work with.
I am waiting for a reply off Irongrandpa as he go in first with a pic before I edited the first post. I'll announce the numbers after midday tommorrow
but at worst you will be #7.

@adaje41- You're damn right that gets you in. If I had the space I would build a platform for sure. Dip bars are great too. Mine are the same
but they are just welded on some U bar. Nice gym mate, would be happy yo see some more pics of it.

@TXBRASS- Welding is the ultimate skill to have for this thread. When I move house hopefully I will have the space to take it up myself, so I
may be PMing you for tips in the future. Keep the pics coming mate, they represent the elite of the homemade section.

Thanks for all the contributions so far lads, I can see this thread getting big in the future. It shows that Craigslist aint the only way to get cheap gym kit.

    Let me in !!!!!!! Shyt...number 7 is taken ???

I've made a ton of stuff over the last few years. Here's some of my fav work.

Seriously modded rack. I married my old bandit smith with my deltech rack. Cut the top of the rack and made it taller with custom pullup/chin bars, bar holders, etc. Also built in a lat pulldown system that uses the smith as the weight load. Works great !

Small bar work station. I love this for skull crushers and back rows. I added a 6 weight storage horns later on.

Weight vest rack. Everyone needs one of these, right?

Couple of bars. The straight bar was actually the original pullup bar on the deltech rack at one time. Found a better use for it.

Ok here you go TXBRASS. I had this hammer made for me some time ago. I use it on a solid forklift tyre out in my garden. Its less of a swinging motion and more of a shoulder press and drop. Its great for heavy conditioning, and by the end of it every muscle in you body especially you back and shoulders, are ready to drop.

The handle is made out of 2in solid bright steel bar. The head is an 8inch long 4inch diameter bar. The whole thing is about 1 meter long. I havnt weighed it, but I estimate it to be about 40kg. I'll be the first to admit its ridiculus. But its a lot of fun.
