Not an original idea for sure, but the picture says it all:
BTW, I didn't bother making a flange or drilling plates to bolt to the tire. I simply found some tires with a smaller diameter aperture and used my spin-tight compression collars to keep the tire snugged up on the collar. I've tested it for cleans, dead lifts, etc... works great. It has a decent bounce if I drop it from a high height, but it is controllable.()---() York Barbell Club #5 ()---()

I am pretty sure the tires are less than 35 lbs, but pretty close. I have read other people claiming that theirs weighed 30 lbs and those were smaller tires.

OH yes that is sweet!!! Good work dude. Did you drill some plates, or just stick them straight on. Please don't paint them, clean them, or do anything else that will change the appearence- they look great.
edit; ignore question, I was typing in a hurry before work.
@fishpat- I bought the strap from ebay, and got the hardware from Mackays.... Got stuck in a lot of traffic in your home town just to get those things.Last edited by ProtienandIron; 05-12-2012 at 02:04 AM.

EDIT: I have the metal for making a loading pin, I have the chain but I can't find a 1 metre recovery strap anywhere, even on the interwebs!Last edited by fishpat86; 05-12-2012 at 05:07 AM.

Type '1 metre lifting sling' and its varients into ebay. Most of the 1m slings I found were 90mm, but if you pay more you can one a bit wider- 120mm wide. I can't get ebay at the moment so I'll send you some links tommorrow if you get stuck.
Amazon has them too;

Get Mackays to do your welding for you mate. They are very good and have a quick turnaround. They are the guys that built my weight tree and my squat box at the start of this thread. They won't charge you hardly anything just to make a loading pin.

Busted my new bar out this morning. In the end I decided to do 2 sets of handles using 1.25" galvanized pipe. I may add 2 straight handles in the center later on maybe.
Total cost = old bar + scrap tubing + $5 for 1" pipe + $7 rustoleum black hammer paint + $12 new roll of mig wire[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No 7

My next project is gonna be a hammer..... What do y'all think about cutting down an old Olympic bar to use as the handle... Think the diameter is big enough???

It depends. What sort of weight are you going for? What are you looking to gain from sledgehammer work?
I already have a selection of sledge hammers, so the on I had built was more of a challenge hammer. The grip is 2 inches which really taxes your grip. And the head is heavy enough to qualify as a shoulder press. I personally wouldnt find a 28-32mm bar comfortable to use. The least I would go would be 1.5in.My training log:

Skid, that bar looks killer! The only thing that I would have added to that would be to weld end caps on the tubing. I did that to mine, but other than that, yours looks like it kicks the **** out of mine! Yours is actually one of the best Ive seen ever.

Here is my setup and welder. I use a flux wire welder from Harboe Freight. I know people dont really think too highly of their stuff but for what it is we're doing here, its perfect. No one here is building a skyscraper, right? It cost just over a hundred bucks and easy to use. http://www.harborfreight.com/welding...der-68887.html I work with a few welders so after I bought it, I took it to work and had one of them put it to the test. He welded 1/4 inch thick pipe to 1/4 inch thick plate, then we locked it in a vise and we took turns smacking it with a 16 pound sledge hammer. Weld held perfectly, and that guy is a 6 foot 5 freakin roughneck! Here is the setup I have.

a7, is that a saw in the second pic? I really can't tell for sure.
Thanks for the comment on the welder from HF. I've often thought about getting that, but wasn't sure if it would do the trick for weightlifting purposes. Sounds like it sure does.If God had wanted us to be weak, He wouldn't have given us iron.
