This is what I mean by delusion where the guy is concerned. If you walk up to people in the street & ask them who Sting is, most of them will say the guy who used to sing in the Police & does tantric sex with his wife. If you walked up to most people in the street & asked them to name 5 wrestlers, I highly doubt any of them would name him, yet I bet all of them would name Hogan-other than Rock & possibly Austin it would be the first name that most of them would say.

Mostly top WWF/WWE guys though. WCW kind of slipped below most people's radar.

Since when is wrestling ability based on what some morons in the street think?

sting's a top guy no question. i don't know where to rank him numerically but considering i'm 24 years old i've basically seen sting at or near the top of pro wrestling my ENTIRE life. i'd put him in the class with a guy like Undertaker or Bret Hart. longevity really counts IMO
i can't put sting up there with hogan, rock, austin. i'd have HBK ahead of him too. but that's a hell of a class to be in.

Strong this. I love wrestling and I barely know who he is and what I have seen sure as **** wouldn't put him anywhere near the top of my list. Of course this is subjective, so you Sting nuthuggers have every right to disagree with my position. I think HBK is very overrated as well.

Vote for me Vote 4 change
Brock Lesnar should be considered a top wrestler too. So many accomplishments, people(Carwin,Overeem) had to abuse steroids to even fight Lesnar and he still beat Carwin.
You guys forgot the Nature Boy too. Sting is def a top wrestler.
WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Edit** man you guys are forgetting Taker and Foley

It depends on what guidelines you use to rank someone, as well as what era. If you are considering all of wresting history versus the past 25 years, you are going to have to rate him based on a different style, travel schedule, popularity before the advent of the Internet and PPV, etc. If you rate him against his peers since 1987, you will you will get a much higher rating. His feuds against Flair, Rude and Vader were awesome, but he was working with some technically great, charismatic workers who could also give a good promo. His feuds against Hogan, Luger and Koloff failed to live up to their hype, because Sting could not carry both himself and his opponent (although the Hogan matches were mis-handled/written on many levels). One of the reasons he never held the belt for very long was that he could not carry the promotion like many of his peers or predecessors.
As far as all-time, there are too many other wrestlers that better careers in an era that was much different than today's product. The modern fan may choose Sting over say, Harley Race, but Race will rank significantly higher in the annals of wrestling history based on his ability to carry the promotion and his ability to work well with his lesser skilled opponents. To put Sting in the Top 50-75 of all-time might be possible because of his charisma, longevity, popularity and skills, but IMO, he isn't in the top 20. And this isn't really a sleight when you consider the thousands of guys that have wrestled over several decades.

Agreed. But, if you were to show someone who began watching wrestling in the Attitude Era a Race/Flair, Race/Funk or Race/Dusty match, most might not understand why Race was so good. When they hear the name Harley Race, they think of the over-the-hill guy that fought JYD on the Wrestlmania DVD, not the guy that traveled to different territories by car, night after night, having great matches against lesser-skilled local heroes to ensure the NWA title was worth something. Or main evented the supercards at the Orange Bowl, Charlotte Coliseum or MSG.

Not necessarily. Goldberg's 'legacy' would have been better off without his WWE run. He jumped the shark with the Goldust wig imo.

I agree with this post for the most part, but let us not act like Brock Lesnar has never seen a syringe in his life. During his first WWE run, he was roided up to the gills!

Sting is probably in the top 10. While they were not on par, WCW was a formidable competitor to the WWF prior to Hogan et al joining ship. I'd say that the main reason for that was due to Sting and Vader. He then went on to hold his own once the onslaught of WWF oldies showed up.

Sting is my all time favorite but I wouldn't put him even in the top 50 of greatest of all time. Many guys were much better workers. When motivated though he could have some of the best matches ever. His bout with Vader at the bash '92 still ranks as my all time favorite match with an awesome finish and the best or one of the best examples of a superstar putting the new guy over in spades. One other match that comes close to that is Rock putting Lesnar over at summerslam 2002.

Truth is Cena is actually a very fine worker. Same with Hogan. Both guys really don't get the credit they deserve. A good worker to me is someone who can illict an emotional response from the crowd and knows how to use they moves they can do. When Cena is in the ring or Hogan (more in the past obviously) fans are GLUED to their matches.

Misawa never wrestled in the WWE neither did Rocco. Two guys right there considered some of the all time best. Yet because they weren't in the WWE they have no legacy. Please.
Being in the WWE should have no barring on how a guy ranks.

He was top guy for two eras and for nearly a decade. Maybe three, but I don't watch TNN or much of WWE these days so I couldn't tell you. But, how many other guys can claim the same longevity as Sting? Hogan, Flair, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, maybe Savage? Anyone else? I guess you could say Rock and Austin as they could come back anytime and be over.
Plus, I don't think you can compare guys pre/post Vince Jr. era. He changed the game.
I'm not taking about Sting as a worker either, but he had the entire package... namely he really connected with the crowd, which is probably the most important factor.
I'd probably rate him in the lower tier of the top 10 in the post Vince Jr. era. Behind guys like Hogan, Flair, Michaels, and in the second tier with guys like Bret Hart, Randy Savage, HHH, Mick Foley, and guys like that. IMO, impressive because he never worked for Vince Jr. Who knows what would have happened then... Vince could have buried him or turned him into an even bigger star.
All time, I guess maybe somewhere between 20-25??

How does Piper not belong? And since when does titles mean everything? The guy never needed a title. He was one of the greatest heels of all-time and one could argue that there has been no better when it comes to ability on the mic and as a heel. Aside from this, Piper was one of the biggest keys to elevating Hulkamania.
Piper to hogan in 96: "Do you think they would have cheered for you so much if they didn't hate me so much?" alot of truth there
Also, Sting's title runs were completely uneventful. Vader's heel run around that time was far better, and Ric Flair was Ric Flair. Let's not act like Sting was carrying WCW all of those years because he wasn't. He was a nice complement, but he wasn't nearly as successful drawing as you are trying to imply. They built him up great for Starrcade against Hogan, but once Sting had the belt there was basically no interest his way.

That seemed to always be the thing with Sting; he was exciting as the young up-and-comer, but once he became champ, he just wasn't that interesting.

Old school Sting was my favorite wCw wrestler of all time.
That being said, he never went to the big leagues (WWF) so, hes not that high on my list of all time greats.
He might be a top 50 in my list. But his phaggotry against the WWF keeps him way low on my list.
