For any aspiring UK Ivanko crew members. I just found what could be an epic deal for someone. Note the title, note the misspell in the description. Note the quantity of plates and the current price. Good luck to anyone going for them.

The backs of mine are not that smooth either, they also have no stamping on the back. I had come to the conclusion that they were old Paramount plates, but all the pictures I could find of those are stamped Paramount Olympic Barbell. Then Rockettrucker posted and said that they were old unbranded Ivanko's. I believe he said the older ones had the "skinny pointy" letters. Seems like the more common unbranded Ivanko's have the fat letters like dumb.bell's set.

Just picked up my first haul of Ivanko plates. This is the first delivery of 1400 lbs...I tmust say, being a York guy, these Ivankos are pretty damn nice. I rescued them from an outdoor storage container. Sorry I dont have the ability post pics...if someone could help me out it would be appreciated.

I'm curious as to whether Black paint is always indicative of O2B. I think all of my older unbranded Ivankos were originally black, yet the castings are really good, so I'm assuming the older plates are not O2B and that they were all painted black at that time (I'd like to get confirmation of this). In my original purchase of plates I didn't get any 2.5lb plates so I picked up some O2B 2.5lb plates to go with the old plates. I was not very impressed with the quality of these O2B 2.5lb plates, it was obvious why they were O2Bs. Being that these are the only O2Bs I've seen I'm not sure if all O2Bs are this quality (these came from Ivankos clearance section and may have been some of the worst). Anyway, I mention all of this to say that the quality of Slumpbuster's plates look far superior to my O2Bs. Therefore, I'm wondering if its possible that Slumpbusters black plates predate the green plates and are not O2Bs.

I'd also be interested in more information about it. Hopefully Ivan will comment. I'm not sure about Slumpbuster's plates.
From the bits that I've pieced together (not going on much here!), I think the Ivanko branding on the front probably occurred after the "m series" designation. And unless they are marked M series on the back, they are probably precision cast. The recent O2B that I've seen have been pretty rough like you said. I wonder if they are in a different category than the earlier plates or if manufacturing processes changed or if wear from use makes the older plates look smoother.
The olympic plates are black and unbranded (on the front) in the 1979 catalog. The catalog specifies that the holes are machined but it doesn't mention anything about the surfaces being machined. The few unbranded (on the front) "M series" plates that I've seen in photos appear to be black. I don't know when they switched to grey/green. I think they first started putting "IVANKO" on the plates in the 80's but I'm not sure. Ivanko filed a trademark of "IVANKO" on Jan 16. 1981.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #32 []---[] ()---() York Barbell Club #43 ()---() ▉---▉ Equipment Crew #50 ▉---▉

Well I went back to the guy that sold me the Ivanko barbell to buy a bench from him, and found these in the corner of his garage. I don't know much about them, but I believe they are older Ivanko 2.5 kg olympic spin collars. I've looked around online but can't find any information about them. I told myself I wouldn't buy anything else tonight when I went over there, but I just couldn't pass them up.
Not great pictures.
