What do you guys know about these? I just picked them up today. I think I remember seeing a photo of these a while ago, but they are not too common over here. Shame about the 'Taiwan' on them but they are nicely made. The ends of the bars are stamped too.

I think it's the "BEST 45lb. Dumbbell Set". It's listed for $215, which seems high, but chrome is chrome i suppose. How do you like them? I've thought about picking them up, but never found them on CL for a low enough price to justify the purchase.

Edit.. judge beat me to it. The high cost is likely because the plates are forged steel (not cast iron). They are machined and chrome plated.

Thanks very much guys, I had no idea they were still in production. Its a shame I am missing the smaller plates, but I paid equivilent of 22 dollars, so I think that was a good buy. The quality is very apparent, I can see the machine markings.

Based on their ******** page, it looks like Tom and Ivan are out of country for IHRSA. Not sure who will answer your email but I usually email Ivan directly when I have a question. I've called a couple times in the past but don't recall who I spoke with.

I did get an email from Ivan this week. He stated that the specs on the OBT are the same as the OB-20, except for the knurling (which he likes on the OBT). No pics or details. I did send a follow-up asking for more, but nothing yet.

Taking it off of my list for near-term consideration, but will update again if I get more info.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. I'm just looking for more of a power bar than another weight-lifting bar, which this seems to be geared towards.

I keep getting emails asking about Ivanko dumbbells from Costco. If you LOOK at the dumbbells it should be very clear that they are not a commercial quality product. The Ivanko name was licensed. Iirc, they were made by Impex and marketed as "Ivanko Powered". The 400 lb set with stand originally sold for $300... which is 75 cents/lb. That was the price BRAND NEW from the store. They were on clearance for as little as $100 (archived deal discussion). They are not made by Ivanko. They're not a commercial quality product. Compare the price you found on Craigslist to the original MSRP which was 75 cents/lb (or 25 cents/lb when they were on sale). Hope that helps the next guy.

Yeah it has the Ivanko name... but not sure how these people get the idea that those have ANY physical resemblance to commercial pro style dumbbells.

Thanks! I may have jumped the gun on my excitement a bit though. Only time will tell at this point.

The bar is in remarkable shape, however on sleeve is frozen. For the price I got it for though it was worth the risk. I had free'd up stuck sleeves before so I figured I'd take the chance given then shape of the bar.

The inside bushing had a layer of green corrosion (verdigris?) that easily came off, however I think it also extends the length of the bushing inside the sleeve. I used a number of toothpicks, and "Placker" style toothpicks to get in as far as I could and scrape the gunk out. The tight tolerances of these bars is the trickiest part of this whole matter. There is no way I can reach in the length of the bushing to scrape that gunk out.

I did some research, and it seems vinegar is a good solution to eat away at such corrosion. It is currently turned in its end soaking in vinegar now. We shall see. Has anyone else run into this before? What did you do to fix it?

For what it's worth, the inside of the other sleeve looks amazing. It's a shame this bar had to be neglected like it was...

I've never taken mine apart and don't even know what it looks like on the inside of the sleeve. Maybe Morebarbell will chime in, he is more of an expert on Ivanko equipment than I am.

I've never taken mine apart and don't even know what it looks like on the inside of the sleeve. Maybe Morebarbell will chime in, he is more of an expert on Ivanko equipment than I am.

I've removed the sleeves on an OB-84 but I'm no expert. I think a mechanic would be of more help than me. Have you tried carb cleaner?

Joe and I spoke a bit by email. He's got the sleeves off one side. He has the bolt removed from the other side but can't remove the sleeve. The sleeve is a tight fit but it's riding on bushings. The shaft could have some rust but the bushings don't rust, of course. He had it soaking in a penetrating oil which is what I'd try first.

I don't think it's a problem but I wouldn't have tried vinegar. Vinegar (acetic acid) will actually cause verdigris on the bushings... not sure if it will also dissolve the stuff that's already present. It will also cause corrosion of steel. I'm not sure if it will remove the black oxide or not...my guess is that it will. Vinegar will turn steel a sort of grayish color so it might not be so noticeable. Also, I think the vinegar would make a mess with the oil/grease inside the sleeve. ...and it smells bad.

In our email exchange, I said that I wondered if xylene would help dissolve any of the junk. I also said that using a heat gun might be a last resort. The steel is heat treated but I think it would be ok within a range. Maybe Ivan could tell you what temp range would be acceptable so as not to ruin the temper of the steel.

When you have it heated, you might give the inner collar a few taps with a rubber mallet to try to dislodge the sleeve. Good luck!

The finish on the sleeve is not normal for an economy bar. They have some Made in China bars with imperfect black oxide in the clearance section so maybe they're having problems with the finish on the bars. I doubt they open all the tubes and inspect the bars before sending them out. The black oxide will wear off with use, especially on the sleeves, but only you can decide if you want to keep it.

Late to the party -- but we did (and do) open up all the the OBZ-30 to inspect. It's always possible we miss something though
