    Welcome to the Juggernaut Challenge!

    You have done an amazing job in your transformation. I can't wait to see what another 12-weeks will do for you!

    A friend of mine, who is a bit overweight, has been consulting with me recently about changing up his diet and nutrition, and also begin hitting the gym. I plan to help him along the way and train him whenever I can. May I ask what you feel helped you the greatest along the way?

    *******JOESWAT, THE ORIGINAL JUGGERNAUT****************

    TODAYS TOPIC IS ; HOW SAFE ARE BEHIND THE NECK PULL DOWNS AND BEHIND THE NECK SHOULDER PRESSES,.....IS THIS MOVEMENT WORT THE RISK.....

    HERE IS MY OPINION; BE CAUTION WITH PULL DOWNS BEHIND THE NECK, THIS IS VERY LIMITED EXERCISE, ITS A GOOD
    EXERCISE WHEN IT’S DONE WITH PROPER FORM AND SQUEEZE WITH LIGHT WEIGHTS... ANY OTHER WAY ITS A FORMULA FOR INJURIES....

    HERE IS SOME INFO ON HOW YOU CAN AVOID AN INJURY;
    **The problem with the behind-the-neck Pulldowns lies in "external
    rotation, rotate your arms backward so that your palms are facing up.
    It's basically the opposite movement to internal rotation.
    To do the behind-the-neck pulldown as normally instructed, you must
    externally rotate your shoulders as much as possible. This is a very
    delicate position for your shoulders. This is the main reason heavy weights are not advisable. The supporting muscles of the shoulders (known as the rotator cuff) are not in a good position to stabilize the joint and injury to those supporting muscles can result, which can lead to further injury in the
    connective tissue of the joint.

    Since most people do not have enough shoulder flexibility to get a straight line of pull behind the neck, they must bend their neck forward to do this movement; this can result in neck strain on top of shoulder strain.

    This information also applies to the behind-the-neck PULL-UP exercise.
    The mechanics of the movement are exactly the same, the only difference
    being you're pulling yourself up instead of pulling the weight down.
    NOTE;
    The Behind-The-Neck Press gives us the same shoulder issues associated
    with the Behind-The-Neck Pulldowns. To do the movement, you must
    maximally externally rotate the shoulders. This places the shoulders in
    a very vulnerable position which can easily result in strain in to the
    Rotator Cuff muscles.

    Most people simply don't have the necessary shoulder flexibility to get a straight line on the movement -they must tilt their head forward to get the bar behind it, adding greatly to the possibility of injury. For me I like to bring the bar in front for lat pull down or presses, this allows me to(go heavy) pull the bar down with control and aligned with the Body grove/form.
    Train safe, train smart, train for results.

    A friend of mine, who is a bit overweight, has been consulting with me recently about changing up his diet and nutrition, and also begin hitting the gym. I plan to help him along the way and train him whenever I can. May I ask what you feel helped you the greatest along the way?
    Thanks Eriemoto, The thing that I feel helped me the most along the way was first of all re-evaluating my entire relationship with food. Portion control, and a good understanding of how calories in vs calories out work. How to use the math for either gaining or losing. The more weight that came off the better i felt as well as the more outside confirmations I received even when I couldnt see it myself. The changes are so subtle that when you live your life as a big man, thats what you see and thats what you know. So seeing anything else often takes another set of eyes. Anybody going through this thing can understand how frustrating it is for a 3, 4, or 500 lb person to settle on losing 1-2 lbs / week. It can be so frustrating that when you finally have put in the time and only drop that two pounds it makes you want to just say F it and go right back to another Fad.... Also, depending on the situation, seek professional help outside of the norm. Alot of these situations become life or death type issues so. I always say JUST START. If you mess up today, Dont put it off until the next day. Start right now with the very very next meal. Even if it's everyday...

    HERE IS SOME INFO ON HOW YOU CAN AVOID AN INJURY;

    NOTE;

    Thanks Joe, I actually never go behind the back with this exercise mainly because there is a sign that says on the machine, "Do not go behind the neck as this may cause injury" and i'd hate for the machine to yank me off the bench and get all tangled up......... Looking forward to soaking up the knowledge and particularly read more of the way to maintain muscle while losing the fat. still a ways to go but will get there.

    JUGGERNAUT Protocol

    So that I am not just flying around like a fart in the wind, would somebody please tell me the protocol for participation? Is this thread that we each have created pretty much the guidelines of showing our committment, schedules, and workouts or is there another place that we should participate in our contributions to the group? Kinda confused here. Hate to be winging it and winging it wrong. Thanks in advance!!

    Thanks for the reply and great info! I think I am getting my friend off on the right track so far. He understands the concept of Cals in vs. Cals out now that I have explained how simple it is. He is now tracking his daily macros on MyFitnessPal and doing a great job so far. I understand that the change will come at a slow and steady pace, I just hope he will understand and stick with me the entire way! It's funny how the lifestyle of health and fitness that I pursue is starting to rub off on friends and family all around me. My parents and sister have even joined the gym!

    Adam, you got sexy on! I know what you mean about putting yourself out there. It takes a lot out of a person in many aspects. But you are the REAL DEAL! It's never a matter of CAN but a matter of WILL! You are an inspiration to many! I'm looking forward to your continued progress as you meet your goal. I'll be here at the finish line with the pom poms ready. ...can't wait!
