    Shoulder injury questions...

I sustained a shoulder injury at work a couple of weeks ago and just got my MRI results yesterday. I'm scheduled to go over the results with an Orthopedic Specialist in TWO WEEKS(!!!), But its going to kill me to wait that long for answers. Does it appear I will need surgery? I am not in a great deal of pain, there are only certain movements that send pain through my shoulder. It doesnt appear that I;ve lost strength in my shoulder, it just seems to get fatigued easily. I also have a dull uncomfortable feeling in my shoulder when im laying down and several times a day when im doing normal activities, but the pain isnt constant.

    Impression:
    1. there is MR evidence suggesting a recent posterior shoulder dislocation injury. A reverse Hill-Sachs fracture within the anterior/medial humeral head is present. There is also tearing of the posterior glenoid labrum.

2.Small glenohumeral joint effusion and small subacromial/subdeltoid bursitis.

    3. Mild intrasubstance tearing is present within the distal supraspinatus and subscapularis tendons as described above. There are no full thickness rotator cuff tears.

    4. A source for rotator cuff impingement in this patient is mild acromioclavicular joint arthrosis. There is acute irritation and edema surrounding the AC joint, as well as within the posterior acromion, which could be due to impingement or additional contusion.
    surgery? Opinions?

    Thanks

BTW... The MRI was done without contrasting dye.. If that makes a difference?

It makes a big difference. I got a regular MRI for my shoulder in early December and it claimed I only had bursitis. I returned the past January and got an MRI arthogram (with the contrasting dye) and the results said I had fraying of my subscapularis tendon and partial tear/misshaping my labrum. No surgery for me, but 3 months of extensive physical therapy to strengthen my rotator cuff.

I don't think you're going to need surgery. No full thickness rotator cuff tears should be a breath of fresh air, but i don't know if the "tearing of the posterior glenoid labrum" is significant. Looks like a lot of physical therapy will be the outcome.

And tell me about waiting for answers; those orthopedic surgeons always bring out the impatience in me haha

I was wondering what "A reverse Hill-Sachs fracture within the anterior/medial humeral head is present. " means.

I did a search, but was not enlightened enough by what I found to be able to say whether this is serious or not.
