Let's take major expenses into account.
1.) Home
a.) Live with parents until mid to late 20s while saving up. No shame in this.
b.) Move into grandparents house when they die. Also no shame in this.
c.) Double wide trailers can be bought for 12-15k.
2.) Car
Buy a car for about $15,000. If you drive a normal amount it should be able to last 10-15 years.
Never buy a new car unless yours literally will not run anymore.
Clothes
1 pair of jeans can last for 5 years (mine have, they costed about $60)
Buy 1-2 new t shirts every year.
1 jacket can last 5+ years.
Buy a new pair of shoes every 2nd year.
Do all of these things and you can be living a decent life with super low expenses and even making a poverty salary you can have extra money for fun.

Dunno what you're on about op but lettuce all do some math;
Apartments in the south east usually run you about 900/month. that's including all living expenses except food.
Next is food and other random first world problem stuff like a cell phone etc.
I'd say realistically, including fun shiet, it might take a tad over 20k. To be on your own and happy. stay safe.████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████

OP you live in rural middle-of-nowhere though. Quit making assumptions on costs of living elsewhere based on your personal experiences because most of us don't have a hundred acre backyard.

My kid gets free school lunch. That's it.
House (rent) is 1k a month, heat included and has 2 car garage with gym in 1 bay
cars: paid for
cell phones: $100
Internet/Netflix: $60.
Rest is food/clothes.
Wife watches kids cus daycare costs so much. I'm going back to college/working. That's it, no TANF/Obama-Phone/hand-outs. I got my pride and my family, most of my income is post 9/11 GI Bill so I don't have any tax liability and do get EIC on tax returns, but that's it.
Lifes not hard when you cut out the excess bullchit. I work/school and hang out with the family. It doesn't cost money to lift weights or go to the park.
