Permanent Hormonal Damage Due to Cutting
Does anyone know if excessive cutting (6'3'' 180lbs, <2000 calories/day, 2 hours of cardio, 1.5 hours of lifting per day for about a year and a half) can cause permanent hormonal damage. The reason i ask is because my testosterone was tested at 20 when normal is 300-1200.
does anyone know if excessive cutting and working out can cause permanent damage, or is this something i can recover from by eating more and working out less? i switched to 3 days a week lifting for 45min-1hr per day, and some mild cardio 2 days a week. Im only 24 and this is scaring the sh*t out of me.

Very low calories diets can cause metabolic issues when practiced for very long periods, however I am not sure close to 2k a day would count. Google Wilson's syndrome, it's been a long time so my memory on the issue is fuzzy but you may learn something there.

yeah, he thinks it might be a tumor in the pituitary gland. i go in for an MRI tomorrow afternoon... If thats not the problem, i have no idea what it could be. I tried not working out for 1 month, just walking for about an hour or so a day. After the month my testosterone didnt move at all... Now im really bumping up the calories to see what happens. I have all of the typical symptoms of low-t, depression, brain fog, fatigue, no libido, etc... its pretty much ruining my life...

Do you have lab results beyond T? LH, FSH, Prolactin?

I struggled with Anorexia and Bulemia between the ages of 15 and 17. Ever sense I got checked at the age of 18, I have low testosterone and a slow thyroid.
I wasnt anorexic and bulemic the entire time, but the rest of the time I would cut drastically. Take it for what its worth.

Any results on the MRI? I believe abnormal prolactin levels can be related to pituitary tumors. It sounds like you needs some additional lab work to help identify the root cause of the low t. There's some good information on the T-nation TRT forum.

Ice cream or GTFO
I've been struggling with the same thing for a year and a half now. At the start of college, decided to lose weight... Wasn't smart about it, developed some ed type habits, and thyroid and test dropped to nothing. Test was tested for the first time in December of 2010, and free test was somewhere around 120-140... Can't remember.. But just got test taken again 2 weeks ago, and even after a year and a half of t3 and androgel/compound test., I am only at 197. Feelsrealbadman. Been lifting 3x a week, with minimal cardio (5-10 minute jog warmup before lifting), and have finally put on some weight, but not much of it is muscle.. It's a pain in the ass. Hope all goes well, wishing you luck with the MRI results.

^this, by the way, is good info. I had prolactin tested to rule out pituitary tumor. MRI will obviously give you a definItive answer OP, but if you haven't gone through that expensive pain in the ass, you can always do this.

Yes. Depriving your body of ENERGY for extended amounts of time will cause damage to your hormones. I can speak first hand of this.

If your T is lower than mine (80 ng/dl), then you do have some pretty serious hormonal damage.

I hope they can bring your test up naturally rather than hrt. Are you on any meds that may be affecting your hormones?

At this point, we HAVE to do hrt. Dietary changes at this low of a level just simply isn't enough...
Well, according to MY doctor at least..

There could be underlying issues if you have very low test. It's very unlikely that you will cause any permanent damage just by dieting, since the mechanisms that synthesize hormones are just "dormant" rather than damaged. When you reverse diet and increase your calories/fats, assuming no underlying issues, hormone levels usually bounce back.

OP, I've been through almost exactly what you have been through. I had an MRI scan for a tumor on my pituitary also, came back negative for the most part. There were two very, very small spots that the Dr. wanted to follow up with a MRI in a year (which is coming up soon). My levels were ~80 ng/dl. Doc has me on androgel. Let me know what you find out. I'm interested in what your diagnosis is, if they find one.
