Thanks again everyone. Really....it means a lot to have this kind of support!
What an a@@! .... That was funny!
Yea....kinda anti-climatic huh?... But boy I was pissed when it did not record the first time. My damn phone locked up and had to restart it. Should have seen the first set....it was even easier.
Not silly. It is actually an old sweatshirt (inside-out) that I have had since college. It was my favorite workout sweatshirt. I wore it even when I first started training. Back in the day I cut the bottom off it. Over time, the sides have ripped up the seams.
To me when I put it on....it means that I am getting ready to lift stuff. A little switch goes off in my head and I know it is time to work.
I like to get real warm when I lift heavy....so the sweatshirt is great. If you look close, I am even wearing a little skull cap. I shed them after 5 or 6 sets when I have a real good sweat going. Just keeps the joints happy....and I like my little rituals.

Strong man is cool....but not sure my wife would be cool with me doing tire flips in the house!
Yes I believe in general there is a direct correlation between size and strength but not always. Lifting heavier does not always mean you will get bigger though. There is another part to the equation....You have to eat!
You can get stronger in two ways from training....either by increases in neural efficiency, or by hypertrophy....the quality and amount of your nutrition will determine which route your body will take to deal with the increased loads. (just my broscience....but what I believe 100%). You need to eat to grow.
As for being new to the game....look up a member here.... 2ndChance. Here is his journal:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=130517683
He started in 2009 and look at him now.
Well....I'm a little fat and sloppy . j/k But getting fat really is an easy way to get strong. But I want both, lean muscular physique AND strength....that take A LOT more work. Most all of it in the kitchen and entire lifestyle OUTSIDE the gym. It is a 24/7 365 thing.
Thanks man....Truth be told, my shoulders have never felt better. I was told 4 or 5 years ago (before I was working out) to be expecting to have surgery if I ever wanted to be able to raise my arm out straight and hold it there. I have RC issues. It was so bad that when my kids were younger, I used to need my wife to put the kids in their car seats. I could not even lift my infant children in a car carrier. Pretty bad when you need your 115lb wife to lift things for you!
By starting over from scratch and moving up slowly in weight, things have gotten a lot better. My issues are almost gone. I know there is a bad spot in my shoulder and can find it if I go looking....but day in and day out, I dont notice it all all. I dont wake up with shoulder pain...and have no trouble raising my arms. Funny how the body works.... It likes to be worked hard. To me the key is always being in control and coordinated. If you do that, injury from lifting heavy is highly unlikely.
I laugh that I used to be one of those guys that made excuses about why I couldnt bench. You hear it on here all the time....."I cant go all the way down." Or "all the way up"...etc. Trust me on this.... Check the ego at the door....strip off all the weight and start over from scratch and re-learn good controlled form. It works.RAW lifts

Thanks man. I am not a big 1rm guy. It does not really fit into my training. Also, I workout at home alone....so pushing it without a spotter is not a real good idea for me. I just waited so long to do it cause I always thought it was a little too heavy for me to do it 5 or 6....guess not! Really I only was thinking I would get 3 or so as benching has never been a strong point for me.

Awesome job! It really was too easy for you.
That's what you have a yard for! Just don't flip 'em onto her flowers.
My right shoulder is keeping me from benching. I can go all the way down - but if I do, it ain't comin' back up! This gives me great encouragement to drop down and try over. Leaving the ego at the door is perhaps the hardest thing to do (probably more so for men than women I suppose). Thank you for the constant inspiration!Peace: Lift Long and Prosper!

RC stretches with a stick really helped me out. My chiropractor buddy got me doing them. My shoulders have gotten so much better, I dont even do any RC work at all anymore. (although I should).
Yea man....my shoulders were screwed. I could not even reach my right arm out to change the radio station in the car. I would have to rest my hand on something then reach a button. (srs). As I said....just starting over from scratch with low weight and re-learning form. I dropped the BB style bench, (elbows out) and went to a closer grip powerlifter type. I always make sure to 'tuck' my elbows first...then lower the weight. Planting the shoulders in the bench is very important too. To me, benching without pain or injury is all about stability. You have to plant yourself and push through the proper ROM and you wont hurt anything.
Good luck...let me know how it goes for you!RAW lifts
