I don't really know about police in U.S. but here in Canada you have different work schedule. Depending on your shift it could be 7/7, 5/5, 4/3 and such (7/7 = 7 days of work and 7 days off). Starting at around 45k CAD/yr and after 5 yrs it's around 80k like another miscer said. Along with that you can surely get another job if you aren't too lazy instead of resting on your non-working days.
A big cons is that you will most likely lose your actual circle of friends because you won't have the same work schedule (example: you will most likely work on weekends and have your days off during weeks). With that beeing said, you will surely develop friendship with the other cops into your unit that have the same lifestyle as you do.☆ ☆ QUEBEC CREW ☆ ☆

Con: you might have to take a long run to catch the bad guy
See that I did there?-Having a big tool box is great but it means nothing if you lack a set of standard screwdrivers and a hammer.

what are the odds of getting into a position where you're part of a select team (SWAT) /specialist team where you are a sniper? (yes have target shooting experience)

If you can assume that you were driving that fast, the police officer will have a better attitude with you. If you have a good reason to drive that fast, just tell it to him and he could possibly let you go away without any ticket. But if you have no significant reason and you were just in a hurry, you are the one who is to blame for it.
Take it that way; would you rather get a speeding ticket or hit someone that was crossing the street because you couldn't slow down since you were driving too fast?☆ ☆ QUEBEC CREW ☆ ☆

Occsasionally. What puts me to tears is kids. Ive seen 2 newborn babies die in the last few months because parents dont put their kids in cribs. Nothing makes you want to hit the bottle more than giving cpr to a 6 week old baby. Kids are helpless and true victims.
Ever wonder what duct tape does to a toddlers skin around his mouth. It rips it off. Ever wonder how kids grow up after they were raped by their grandpa for years. We really do see it all"It's not about how much you can lift, It's about how much you look like you can lift." Bob Chic

I've been in the AF reserves for 3 an a half years now as a member of the SF (security forces) & plan on becoming a LEO.. following in my fathers footsteps i suppose.
I've seen some fk'd up stuff out in Afghanistan, but mostly just boring ass shifts & patrols etc.
Any other former military police brahs out there become a police officer? was it difficult making a switch to learning all new laws & procedures etc etc"Rise and rise again until lambs become lions"

So you would rather kill someone, get a police record that will follow you for years, get treated as a criminal by your own family and circle of friends, be accused of reckless driving+manslaughter and face years of jail than pay few $ and lose points on your driving license? Srs..

Usually 4 tens or some variation. The hrs suck cause when youre new you work graves. Winter time on graves sucks. BRB driving in the snow tracks you made 2 hours ago that were untouched. You will also work part or allof the weekends until you get 7-10 years or go to detectives. Work holidays if it falls on a work day. In my 5 years, I have not been scheduled to work 1 Christmas, New Year, and Thanksgiving

A business degree will not get you into the FBI. LEO experience may help get further down the application process but its pretty saturated with people with LEO experience. They will hire you IMMEDIATELY if you are extremely fluent in a 2nd language (asian, arabic especially). I'm talking about where you can go interview people in another language using financial/technical language. Right now they are also hiring a ton of Computer Science people (for all the internet fraud, etc. that the FBI investigates). After that, they hire accountants and lawyers (white collar crime investigations). You still go through the same special agent training at the academy regardless of what background you have tho.
