I'm guessing it was in the past, it probably showed up due to overuse and the injury kept compounding itself (tear probably got bigger until it was noticeable). If I remember correctly, Lin never wore a knee brace back on golden state..

Actually upon looking into Lin's previously had a knee injury in 2010 which kept him out of Yao Ming's charity game overseas. Idk if it's the same knee issue but interesting nonetheless.
