So I got interested in O-lifting about 2 months ago after doing the whole BBing/PL'ing style for a while with meh results. As a former professional baseball player I've always trained and being athletic is a big part of my life, and I have a serious passion for weightlifting as a sport and lifestyle.
I've been following a cycle from CAthletics.com for about 4 weeks now which is programmed all around the snatch and C+J. When I started I literally couldn't overhead squat with the bar, and last night I snatch balanced up to 135 so I'm making progress. Still, I think I've taken my snatch as far as I can by watching YouTube videos and I think it's time for some better-trained eyes to critique. At the moment I've power snatched up to 160 lbs, and in the below video I am snatching 135 lbs:
I honestly don't know where to start, so I'd appreciate any and all comments to help me get better.
Looks like you're letting the bump push the bar out in front of you instead of pulling with a shrug afterwards. Doing this should help keep the bar path a little more narrow and end up putting the catch much closer to the right position when it lands. Also, don't look up when you catch the snatch. You should be looking somewhere from straight ahead to slightly downward. You should feel the pressure from the weight transferred through your back instead of directly on your shoulders. Fix these two things and you'll be in much better shape
You're not extending up after you bump/pop the bar at the hips. This is why you're forward and landing on your toes. Complete the pull UP, then get down under the bar using the bar to pull yourself under!! Stay on your mid-foot towards the heel on the pull.
Good start position but your back could be tighter, get your chest up more. Once the bar breaks off the floor, you are doing a pretty good job getting your knees back but you could do a little better bringing the bar in, squeeze your lats like you are doing a straight arm lat pulldown so the bar comes into you better. You aren't extending completely and really cutting your pull short, get your hips through more and see if it helps.
Your last video looked much better. I would have to agree with everyone. Butt down lower, chest up, stay on your heels and finish your second pull. You're trying to sneak under the bar before you even finish the pull. (talking about first video)
