professional mba
I graduated in August of 2011 and have about 8 months of work experience. I think I have a strong resume and my recommendations letters were probably quite good behind my ad counselor introduced me to the assistant dean yesterday before submitting my paperwork for approval. I don't think my school has ever let anyone in with 8 months of work experience, so that says something if my ad counselor stepped up to the plate for me.

Tulane, which is currently ranked #43 as far as business schools here in the U.S.
Honestly, I wanted to stick with a program here in the Houston area because of obvious reasons. My entire family is here, all my friends are here and my job is here. I made a thread earlier today and people starting criticizing me for not getting into a top 10 school. Fukking lol what do they expect me to do, quit my job and move to a foreign city? The only other programs I applied to were the University of Houston MBA program (fall back plan) and the new Texas A&M pmba here in Houston. I'm still waiting to hear back from A&M for an interview, but I am unsure of whether or not I will accept even if I kill the interview and get offered a spot.
yea two years is pretty much the starting for a PMBA or part time mba unless you have a good reason to deviate from that requirement. An executive MBA usually has an average requirement of about 15 years, but they separate executive from other MBAs because it would be insulting to ask someone 15 years out of college to take the GMAT. Full time MBAs are a little different and these are usually the programs people apply to straight out of school, but I obviously can't juggle going to school full time with a job.
I scored a 600 on my GMAT, but I took it on April 2nd with only 6 days of prep time. You may ask why i chose to take the GMAT so late with little prep time but, I decided to apply for an mba program about two weeks prior to that. I literally asked myself the question "is it the right time to pursue an MBA?" and the answer was yes. I based this solely on the current position my life was in and that fact that I can't predict the future. In two years, I may not be able to apply for a program because there is no telling what may come up. I killed the quant section, didn't do so well on the verbal, but aced the AWA with sixes on both essays. I think my AWA helped rectify my relatively low verbal score, but I personally think the verbal section is pointless because we all speak english. The Quant section is much more important because of all the finance classes you will have to take.
I don't know if you are planning to apply to a graduate program, but applying to one is a different beast than undergrad. During high school, we just applied to every one we could just to see if we could get in and go to college with our friends, but grad school is a lot different. It's a very personal decision that has to work for you.Creator of:
