K so i just ran some numbers on EV each ticket.
Assuming the cash option of 389 million and using the payout table here http://www.megamillions.com/howto/ (which is for every state but California)

If the expected number of winning tickets is one then each ticket is worth $2.38
If the expected number of winning tickets is two then each ticket is worth $1.27
If the expected number of winning tickets is three then each ticket is worth $.91
If the expected number of winning tickets is four then each ticket is worth $.72
If the expected number of winning tickets is five then each ticket is worth $.61

Expected number of winning tickets is hard to calculate without knowing how many tickets are sold but if you assume that enough tickets (about 352000000) are sold that there will be two winners, each ticket you buy is still gonna net you .27 pretax

You do realize 1 in 15 odds equates to about 6.67% of winning the lottery. You do realize that every lottery is a separate event, just like flipping a coin -- just because you flip heads the first time, doesn't mean you are any more likely to flip tails the next time, they are completely independent events.

Actually sir, I did. You must have missed my post. Unless he has 1000 completely different combinations which is highly unlikely, the odds really have changed much at all. Maybe down to 1 in 170 million vs 1 in 176 million but still negligible regardless. Buying one ticket has the same chance of winning it all

Assuming the OP didn't get any duplicate numbers, he's actually right.

The people you keep calling out are assuming the likely scenario that all of those combinations are randomly drawn. In which case, OP is indeed wrong. Whereas you keep arguing for the EXTREMELY UNLIKELY scenario that OP actually reviewed 1,000 combinations of 6 numbers to ensure no duplicates.


Regardless of the numbers, I commend OP on the purchase.
