Tire flipping, any tricks or tips?
We have one of the monster truck style tires at the gym and it is intriquing me. I have never even attempted it and have no idea other than what I have seen on TV as to how it's done. I want to give it a shot friday and was wondering what to expect and if there are any deep dark tricks or secrets to it?

Think offensive lineman, 4 point stance. Drive your chest and shoulders into it as you pull it up, keeping arms locked. Once its above your knees, drive one of them into the underside of the tire and then get your hands under it and push

I'm just hoping I can get a couple flips out of the damn thing. Would suck to not even get one.

Cool, I'd like to try that sometimes as well. My group does parking lot laps with a pull harness on my truck, then we push it back and do it again.

Drive into it, chest tight to the tire so you don't use too much of your bi's

for crying out loud. Pick the ****ing thing up and flip it over. It's not rocket science.
I flipped my 1st last fall, frozen to the ground, full of icy water. Did not consult internet before flipping.

Here's a great vid:
http://vimeo.com/15242066
It's by the head coach at my old Crossfit gym. I was trying to deadlift them before I saw this vid and was having a lot of trouble.
I do snatch pulls in the gym so I can do snatch pulls in the bars. And I ALWAYS use a hook grip.

How is it that BTO injects tire flipping into every bodybuilding thread, and ignores tire flipping thread?

OK, I have to admit that was good.

One point to gain speed, if you're flipping it more than once, is once the tire starts to fall position yourself so that the moment it hits the ground, you're lifting it back up. If you shove the tire over, it'll bounce and move, delaying the time when you can grab it again. That's how I lost speed on my attempts. 293 lb tire, flipping it 15 times. Horrible time of 48 seconds.
Good luck, and remember, you're really only lifting half of the tire.

Most contests use real tires tho. The one in my profile pic is a 700# tire so if you don't give it a shove, it will stay upright

not quite... domesticated
The secret to flipping a tire:
Get the best possible recap on it that you can... then it will be worth almost as much as a new one.

The one at the gym isn't that big, looked like it was at 1st glance but it's actually probably only about 300 so should be no problem at all. Going to see how many flips I can get out of it.

Huh, so he is saying to NOT try deadlifting it. Interdasting, I must try this.

I agree with bando here and try not to shove anything up your butthole after you do it

Getting these legs back
My only advice is to remove the tire from the vehicle before flipping. That's all I've got.
8+ servings of fruits and vegetables in only 2 tsps of Greens. It's the best tasting, smallest serving of a Greens products that I've ever used. Order at www.fitwraps.net.

A bit too late for that advice Simp, wondered why I was having a hell of time and it was just an old Escort.
The tire flipping deal is lame, was easy as hell but like I mentioned it's a small tire weighing about 300 lbs. Would love to give it a try on one of those monster 700+ lb things.
