Man, oh man.. Great to log back in after years of inactivity to see people meditating and improving themselves. I've implemented some meditation time in my classrooms with some success, some of these kids could use it for their restlessness. I am getting back into meditation after taking a year or two off from doing it as consistently when I posted in this thread. It is very important to practice meditation and mindfulness everyday or you may risk returning to your old ways.. As I have.. However, I have been making sure to meditate at least a few times a week and I can feel/see glimpses of my old water-like self. I've been doing the usual meditation and occasionally (and with utmost respect) using some kundalini/prana meditations, though I do these sparingly.
I've been rereading The Power of Now and enjoying talks from Ajahn Brahm (posted a link to some of his talks on youtube, great to listen to!)
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...ry=ajahn+brahm
I've also found a gentleman on youtube that has a few very effective guided meditations, but do use these with respect should you have a kundalini experience.

Any of you meditation brahs recommend me some longer, maybe even more intense guided meditations?*Chicago Crew*

Focusing on meditation increases testosterone, growth hormone and igf-1? First ive heard this. I know meditation calms the mind and its been said meditation is like God talking to you and prayer is like you talking to GodDisclaimer: The above post is my personal opinion and does not represent the official position of any company or entity. Found headspace and finished the 10 days straight...elected to purchase the year ($70). I plan to use it to build a base and start looking at different avenues of meditation. I find headspace 10 mins is so quick when the guy is constantly speaking and interrupting your focus.
I'm a real beginner and let me say, I've loved it so far. I'm on mobile but plan to read through the thread soon.
Any suggestions or reading material? Appreciate you guys.

Glad to hear it's worked out for you! I haven't tried headspace but I might look into and see what it's about, I'ver heard good things about it.
I would recommend any book by Thich Nhat Hanh, I'm currently reading "Happiness". He has some really good insights into meditation and he focuses his meditation lessons on how to implement them into your daily life to improve your daily quality of life while still being practical; basically what this thread is all about.

how do you handle hearing someone in the next room over?
i have a roomate in an apartment so sometimes when i'm trying to meditate in the bedroom i hear them walking around, rummaging through something, etc, etc. it kind of becomes a huge distraction for me.
i know you don't need perfect silence to meditate, but how do you handle noises like this? do you focus on them? or just kind of let them be in the background?? it's really hard to NOT focus on them. and then it almost becomes frustrating because i'm trying so hard to ignore the noises that they become the center of it, if that makes sense. just curious on how to handle this.

Thought I'd pass this on:
"Despite its PR problem, mindfulness meditation is a simple, secular, scientifically validated exercise for your brain."
Just in case you’re worried, meditation does not require a lot of the things people fear it might. For example, you don’t have to sit in a funny position. (Unless you want to, of course.) You also don’t have to: light incense, chant, or believe in anything in particular. There’s nothing to join, no special outfits to wear.
To be clear, meditation is not going to solve all your problems. But it might make you 10% happier. "
"After having a nationally televised panic attack, Dan *knew* he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, he realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had propelled him through the ranks of a hyper-competitive business, but had also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out.
He stumbled upon an effective way to rein in that voice, something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation, a tool that research suggests can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain."

i have been meditating since last year. everything about me has changed; my life, outlook on life, appearance, confidence, determination and general attitude. I'm a much stronger person than i use to be. back then i didn't care about my future or even myself for that fact. but, one day i woke up and everything started to click. i went through a lot of trauma during my adolescence and it got to the point where i attempted suicide after my grandfather died. i just couldn't take the pain anymore. but, I'm glad i didnt die and was given another chance at life. that was 2013. i was still just wandering through life for the next three years after that. now fast forward to 2016. something really ****ed up happened and after that i promised myself to be the best of a person that i can be. i'll do whatever the **** it takes to get to where i want to be in life. no matter how many times i get knocked down i'll keep getting up and pushing forward no matter what! thats when i found meditation and started practicing it. now, its 2017 and I'm a whole new person. I'm no longer that weak little kid who got abused. i can certainly stand on my own two feet now without needing someone elses help. i can take care of myself on my own. i am becoming the person who I'm destined to become.
for anyone who thinks meditation is some made up bull****, think again. it works and you must put in the work so you can apply what you learn bout yourself through this into your life. the more you do this, the better you'll feel. trust me and OP.

In mindfullness meditation, the technique is to acknowledge the sounds, but not the specific. DSo if you hear walking, dont acknowledge it as walking. Just say toy ourself, "hearing, hearing" and continue on meditating.
I fall asleep too. So I try to meditate before lunch or before dinner. Seems to help*** Misc Cigar Crew ***
