Such Thing As Too Much Protein?

I weigh 185. "they" say take 1g of protein per lb. Meaning i would take 185 g of protein. If i were to take in 200-225 g of protein a day will that have a negative effect on me? or would it be more beneficial towards building muscle?

Nope, no negative effect whatsoever. And nobody knows if it would be more beneficial because everyone is different. This is why you have to experiment and do what works best for you depending on your goals. Remember that there are no rules just apply what works.

Depends on what it would cause your other macros and total cals to look like. If you hit your other macros then no, its fine. No harm in it

There are negatives if it exceeds your macro targets as it means your now adding unwanted excess calories.

that is a tough question to really answer. I can't really say "everyone is different" because there are laws of physics and biology your not escaping..."everyone is different" only goes so far.

As far as protein is there such thing as too much? Too much for what? Too much as in it will hurt your health? Maybe, although if you are healthy with no underlying kidney issues it doesn't seem to be harmful.

Make no mistake more protein does not = more muscle in some linear, nice, neat fashion. If that were the case I'd be 350 pounds of muscle and eating 1,000 grams of protein a day.

I wouldn't guess though...figure out your protein requirements and fat requirements and them then fill in the rest with carbs to hit your calorie goal. 1 gram per pound is more than enough though. i don't even eat that much unless I am on heavy doses of "supplements" on contest prep diets. No reason for a natural eating a calorie surplus to get more than .8 to 1 gram per pound of lean weight IMHO.

Its hard to get ALOT of protien but I would say if your getting like 1000+ grams of protein a day it can cause damage to your kidneys.

A 1/1 ratio is already very high. Unless you're a hardcore bodybuilder spending hours in the gym daily I'd be more in the 150g range if I were you. The ketones will do a real number on your kidneys over time.

It wouldn't have any extra benefit to building muscle. 1g/lb BW, like everyone is saying, is the upper end of protein recommendations.

Will it cause harm? Not likely.

Are there any benefits to eating high protein? 1. If it is your preference and you are enjoying your diet this way, and 2. high protein can help keep you full

Whoa whoa whoa, before you start downing tubs of protein and popping your liver and kidneys, sit down and make sure you don't have any kidney or liver related problems. Excess ketones will be left over for your kidneys to over work itself. This isn't going to be a huge problem, but it will be if you got kidney problems. If you drink alcohol and binge on a daily basis, taking that much protein will definitely mess up your liver. I'm no medical doctor, but from my knowledge of physiology and biochemistry, your organs will be all sorts of messed up if you take too much with underlying health problems.
