I've been bulking and gaining steady amounts of muscle mass, but i've heard some people telling me i should be eating 5-6 times a day. My current schedule doesn't allow me to fit in these amount of meals but is it completely necessary to eat that many meals? Is there a specific reason for this?

Everyone have their own theory when it comes to meal frequency, you simply have to try what works best for YOU. I'm eating 6-7 smaller meals a day because i don't like eating all my 1500 kcal/ 60g protein in one meal... And eating more often makes you not hungry between the meals so I'll recommend you eating every 3 hours/ 6 meals! Good luck OP!

Meal timing and what not is irrelevant. Just get your macros and you're set.

As long as your getting your macronutrients.
However each to their own, some people find it easier to spread their meals over 4-7 a day.
I personally eat 4 minimum, just depends how I feel that day. I like eating often also. Just a preference.*Licks the angus first crew*

You guys are wrong - It DOES matter how frequently you eat, because eating only 1 meal a day will slow your metabolism and it won't work anyways - Ever see a muscley guy who eats only once a day? Of course not. Now, back on topic ---- most people eat 3-4 times a day, so yea, eating 3 times per day is normal and perfectly fine. You can eat 5-6 times if it makes you feel better, but you dont need to eat that often, unless you're an endurance athlete or very active.

the reason to eat 5-6 small portioned meals a day is to keep the metabolism going. if you have long breaks in between meals then the body thinks you're starving it or not feeding it enough fuel, especially if you're a serious trainer. that will result usually in muscle loss. therefore, adding in those meals will keep your body burning and feeding the muscles at the same time. if you cant have whole meals, add a couple shakes man. they're very convenient and obviously mobile.

I've done it before lol. I actually have some research on my HDD that compared results from people eating 1 meal a day vs 3 meals a day vs 6 meals a day. Surprisingly the 1 meal a day group had the best preservation of LBM, go figure. They were miserable the whole time though, so I wouldn't recommend it. Will see if I can find it.

Yeah eventually ghrelin and leptin signalling regulates and your appetite isn't bad at all. The longer your fasting periods the longer it takes to regulate. Once you get used to it the fasting periods are great, almost euphoric because I always got great clarity of mind when doing it. Also makes food prep REALLY easy since you just cook a ****load an hour right before your feast. I wouldn't actually recommend it though, I tried it mostly out of curiosity.

I think that would be my main motivation to do something like that. I have terrible eating habits. I eat almost constantly because I do it on impulse (yet I end up eating the same foods at the same time every day b/c I'm a very plain eater) , and the result is me spending half my day cooking food, where as I would just spend a small amount of time cooking a single large meal.

you don't have to but your body is smart, if you eat 3 times a day, it gets used to that, if you eat 5 times a day, it also gets used to that and you feel hungry every 3 hours, cause your body got used to being fed every 3 hours, just for example. As long as you eat the amount of protein and nutrition you need, you should be fine, just make sure if you are put on some muscle and weight , you have to go over the recommended amount of calories a day, like lets say you burn 2900 cals a day, try to aim for 3300 or so calories to gain muscle mass and weight. Just eat till you feel like throwing up lol .....
Just out of curiosity , how can anyone just eat 3 times? I mean 3 big meals yes, but what about snacks? Like sweet potatoes or something, I always eat that, I also drink my serious mass weight gainer. I count 5 times; 3 meals, 2 sweet potatoes and 700cals from the serious mass with milk and peanut butter.
