Doesn't the sternum pretty much always make some crunching noises? I dunno, the only time I ever tried it was on my buddy in high school and I couldn't hear the crunching through all the screaming because he wouldn't shut up.

unless its a child your most likely going to crack a rib or two. its usually the lower ribs to my understanding tho, even tho the sternum is taking the majority of the compression the ribs flex inwards (think of when you take a deep breathe) but since ur basically jump starting someones heart ur obviously pushing harder and the lower ribs on your sides are the ones that usually snap crackle and pop if u know what im sayin. I've only ever done CPR once on a person but i was assisting and the guy that started already cracked the guys ribs. it was pretty loud when they cracked tho

just have to remember the person your doing the CPR is already dead, cracking their ribs in the least of your worries. training takes over.......call muh purrents

wut? lol. the crunching would be bones breaking. sternum is one of the strongest bones in the body

Good CPR will make popping noises and you will feel it in the chest. You are not really breaking the ribs, you are separating them from the sternum. They are attached in the head to the sternum by means of costal cartilage.

A lot of people say you are breaking ribs, even CPR instructors, but apparently it's cartilage more often...though you can still break ribs.

i was told you would feel the cartilage breaking and the chest feeling like it just collapsed in your hands but you'll no doubt hear the ribs breaking

Actually at the time another buddy was attempting to fart in his mouth. It was to be an example of hillbilly CPR but I think it went wrong with too many shots of something flammable in our systems.

100%... if you don't hear cracking noises you're not doing it right. I've lost track of how many CPR codes I've run, maybe 25 or so... only a handful of them have survived. The worst one was an 8 month old baby girl... that was easily the worst call I've ever been on.

I think he had smoked all the other buddy's wacky tobaccy or something and those idiot stoners were yapping on and on about CPR because of a scene in a movie or something and it was decided dude was wrong and needed to be demonstrated upon. I'm not sure where the farting came in LOL... So yeah, dude wasn't on the ground of his own free will and no I was not participating in the wacky tobacky.

It is nice to get someone back, but unless its a kid its pretty easy to shut off your emotions. I used to cringe when I'd see people in pain, not anymore lol...

The actual stem, or just the valve core?

Go to your local shop and have them square you away with a rebuild kit. It'll save you coin, and will give you a new washer, nut, core, and cap. Unless of course, you've got a GMC with the stupid rubber stem, or a Ford with the band sensor.
