LAWLER's Guide To Hipsters
Hipsters fall into two categories:
1) The college-aged hipsters who haven't had enough real-world experience to really have convictions yet. They're essentially in a second high school phase; looking to party and grow socially. But now it's under the guise of adulthood.
2) The mid-late twenties moderated hipsters. They like progressive social structure and the bohemian lifestyle, but have the life experience to have their own idiosyncratic way of presenting themselves.
TIPS FOR THE MODERATED "HIPSTER"
Clothing:
First off, ditch anything that isn't tailored, athletic fit, or contoured to your frame. "Dad clothes", baseball hats, anything with cargo pockets, or anything you might see a surfer or skateboarder wear need to go. The idea is to utilize the color palettes and structures of high fashion, while also keeping grounded. Too many bright colors or goofy, "ironic" graphic tees will make you look like the limpdicks in group 1, but go too far with it the other way, and you'll look like a New York lawyer. Also, be careful, as going overly conservative will give you a Sperry and Polo, New England money look.
Remember the basic rules: match the belt and shoes always, especially when wearing leathers. The watchstrap is a bonus. Don't do 7th grade matching everything in two colors. Break the outfit up into levels, employing different tones, colors, and warmth amongst them. NO UNDERSHIRTS on buttoned/collared clothing.
A personal shot:
Music:
While you could write a dictionary with all the different sub-genres in the scene, don't bother with titles and just focus on finding quality tunes. The right music for the right mood can work wonders. As a guy who listens to a lot of hardcore/metalcore and gangster rap, I'm not trying to sell you on ditching your favorite tunes, but rather embracing new music for new social activities. Listening to Limp Bizkit isn't really a good mood-setter for the drive to a new cafe. And if you meet a nice young hipster lady friend, she's probably not going to be smitten by Drake.
If it's got lots of synths, plays slowly, and has calm vocals, you're G2G. Indie-electro tends to have a vintage 80s electro pop vibe, whereas indie rock should be a mellow strum, with good snares replacing driving bass.

...I believe that the heart does go on.
Once more, you open the door.
And you're here in my heart.
And my heart will go on and on.

Sounds like it takes a lot of capital and time to plan out to make sure youre not not hipster.
I have probably three different attires:
1) basket ball shorts under athletic pants with tennis shoes and a tshirt
2) jeans with a mossimo tshirt and sperrys (boots if im feeling crazy)
3) khakis, tan or gray, with boots/sperrys and a mossimo/athletic fit tshirt
seems to work out for me lol

Okay, so what you guys call hipster we call lost and looking for the gay bar in town. Not a fan. I'll stick with my country boy attire. Redwing boots, wrangler carpenter pants, and t-shirts and polos and camo.

Khaki is a color. You're probably thinking of chinos; usually khaki in color, but also available in numerous others.
That's nice dear. Lest we forget, hipster girls look like this:

Meh. I will always be much more motivated by hatred and the desire to dominate the people who doubt me than I will be by sob stories or pick-me-ups.
I want to be bigger, stronger, faster, and better in every way, then use that prowess to squeeze the life out of my peers/opponents. I don't want to win; I want to feel the other man break beneath me.

Yep. I'm glad I'm too old to try and be "cool" these days. Don't understand the fashion, the culture, or the so-called music. And I don't really care to understand them. There was a time where I might have been jealous of people skinny enough to wear the "cool clothes" because frankly, I'll never be that skinny. Just not how I'm built. But I'm over it, now. I'm too busy to worry about what other people think.

Look at you 2 sounding and dressing like a couple of hipsters...before it was cool. I dunno wtf lawler is talking about, he must be confusing hipsters with the douchebags in the fashion brah thread but most hipsters now look like lumberjacks or extras from a cop show from the 70s.

Yeah, I was always under the impression that hipsters intentionally under dressed in order to seem ironic (it really is ironic that they use 'ironic' incorrectly-perhaps that was intentional irony) and try to be "dork cool". Lawler is what we country folk refer to as 'one of them fancy-pants metrosexuals'.
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous. So are cowardice and intelligence.

My plan for tonight is to meet my buddy at the range and pick up 650 rounds of .303 from him. The we'll go into the range and test the ammo, along with an M14 and a S & W 500 he just acquired. Then I'll go home and smoosh the wife, have a glass of whiskey, and clean guns while watching Duck Dynasty.
Will be a good night.Last edited by lhprop1; 03-13-2013 at 01:21 PM.
