Microwave, bake in foil, cut in fries and grill or pan fry or roast. Pretty much any way you'd cook a russet potato.
Ditch your meal plan and develop a diet that combines sound nutrition with the foods you enjoy by eating when you see fit in the portions that allow you to achieve your macronutrient and caloric needs while providing sufficient micronutrients, energy and satiety. One can never forget that nutrition is a tool, not a restraint; the enjoyment of life should always come first. Psychological, sociological and emotional health should never be threatened by the attempt to increase physiological health.

Next time you go shopping look for sweet potatoes that come in a plastic wrapper. They're meant to be microwaved.
Otherwise, puncture 4 small holes in the potato and microwave for bout 7 minutes for a 8 ounce potato. 11 minutes for two.Ditch your meal plan and develop a diet that combines sound nutrition with the foods you enjoy by eating when you see fit in the portions that allow you to achieve your macronutrient and caloric needs while providing sufficient micronutrients, energy and satiety. This. Exactly this. Let sit 3-4 minutes after. They continue to cook a bit after microwaved which makes them softer and mushier, which is the way most restaurants seem to serve them.
If you like the potatoes a little more solid and less mushy like mashed potatoes, then do 5:30-6 minutes for an 8 ounce potato.
This is all on my 900 watt microwave on high, by the way.

No they're not. Although yams and sweet potatoes are both angiosperms (flowering plants), they are not related botanically. Yams are a monocot (a plant having one embryonic seed leaf) and from the Dioscoreaceae or Yam family. Sweet Potatoes, often called ‘yams’, are a dicot (a plant having two embryonic seed leaves) and are from the Convolvulacea or morning glory family.
